Certainly not the app , speaker is great but I've had nothing but trouble with the app and control
My first Sonos product and decided to go all the way to the top. The Sonos Five produces great sound with clean highs and mid-range. The strong bass response is what really brings it home and makes it a versatile speaker for all genres of music. Should mention that the bass is able to be dialled down if required via EQ in the Sonos app. Overall, the Five is a well-balanced speaker in the sense of producing quality sound (not overly bass-boosted like cheaper speakers can be) but also being enjoyable to listen to for your "average consumer". Pricey but you get what you pay for in this case!
The sound quality is an evolution on series one. Nearly gave up on Sonos after their decision to stop upgrading series one software but have been converted all over again.
If your looking for good sound, stop and buy this speaker!!! Easy to use and SOUNDS GOOD
I have never been into wifi speakers. I’m old school and I believed that to experience really, good quality hi-fi sound, speakers had to be wired. Wow was I wrong. You will not be disappointed with the Sonos Five. One of these outweighs my 4 Wharfedale Diamond speakers with a subwoofer. I can’t wait to hear what 2 sound like. Well worth the investment.
Purchased my second five speaker to form a stereo pair. Sound is amazing. Although already a stereo speaker on its own, the separation of two further enhances listening experience and additional base. Two of these with a sub filled a 100 sqm room easily. On its own - it still sounds amazing and the bass is phenomenal.
Provides the best-sounding base for a multi-speaker system

The market for networked multiroom speakers is highly competitive. Now Sonos is repositioning itself with the hi-fi speaker Sonos Five. In the Test Check we reveal the great challenge Sonos has to master, what the advantages and disadvantages of the speaker are and how well the Play:5 successor...
Sonos has competition nipping at its heels left, right and centre - but this speaker shows what nearly two decades of experience can deliver. It's an ideal way to start a Sonos multi-room system, or add a badass centrepiece to an existing one. It's one seriously impressive speaker - both in terms of design and sound quality.
