Sonos Beam review

The launch of the Sonos Beam comes at a time when things are changing at a rapid pace for the smart speaker company. In the not-too-distant past, Sonos was happy with its slightly shallow product pool.

Great compact design; HDMI ARC compatible; Superb sound

Sonos app not home theater friendly; No Dolby Atmos; Don't have HDMI ARC Then setup gets tricky

Sonos Beam review: Compact in size, not in sound

This is Sonos Beam, a compact soundbar that's designed to bring cinematic sound to your living room without taking up boat loads of space.

Compact size is ideal; Sounds great for both music and TV/movies; Multiple voice-assistants supported

No Dolby Atmos support; Not great at lower volumes; Expensive when adding additional speakers

With their Playbar and Playbase, Sonos' took their audio expertise to new fronts. They attempted to cement themselves as an upstart alternative, not just to the established audio brands out there, but also to those residing in the home theatre space.

Great price-point; Easy setup; Comprehensive compatibility

Not as big impact as the Playbar or Playbase; No Google Assistant (yet

looks great; Sounds amazing for its size; plenty of Bass response for normal sized living rooms; expandable using other Sonos speakers to create 5:1 system

Materiales y forma; Calidad y potencia; Conectividad; Precio

Aún esperando los asistentes virtuales; Debes ajustar bien el ecualizador

Works as advertised

I recently purchased an 82" Samsung Q8 TV and researched the heck out of soundbars to use with it. For reference I have Martin Logan speakers with Parasound and Adcom electronics because I used to be heavily into audio, but I really wanted to simplify my life and clean up the clutter in the family...

Awesome Sound!!!!

Awesome!!!! I paired the Beam with a pair Sonos Ones... for incredible surround sound, in a 15X30 Family Room... I plan to add the sub woofer later... possibly another Set of Ones... for Up Front Surround... these replace an Onkyo 135W / Channel with Polk Audio speakers...

User Friendly; Easy Set-Up; Alexa Controlled

I have an older TV and does not have the ARC -HDMI output; thus I have to use the fiber optic out out; thus I can't use the Alexa Voice Feature

Sonos Beam review: feature-stuffed soundbar with Alexa is the best Sonos ever

Too long, can't be bothered to read The Sonos Beam is a home cinema cousin to the mega successful Sonos One, adding the Amazon Alexa AI (and now Apple AirPlay 2) to Sonos' usual cunning blend of proprietary, multi-room streaming and support for about 9 billion streaming services from third parties.

For the size and price; is a great-sounding soundbar; Easy setup; Can be expanded to support Sonos multi-room and/or 5.1 surround sound; And there's AirPlay 2; AND bloody Alexa's onboard too

Sonos doesn't do Dolby Atmos; Alexa still has numerous ‘quirks; You will spin rapidly down the expensiveness rabbit hole if you want to move up to the full 5.1/multi-room Sonos works

Sonos Beam review

One of the best performance-per-pound products Sonos has produced, the Beam is a blinding little soundbar Alexa and HDMI ARC are the Beam's obvious talking points, but to focus on those features entirely would be to miss out on the fact that the Beam sounds rather exceptional for its price and size.

Impressively open; spacious; three-dimensional sound; Surprising bass weight and depth; Simple setup; Compact and stylish; Usual Sonos music streaming and multi-room capabilities

A little bright and sibilant at high volumes and with poor audio; More HDMI inputs would be nice
