Samsung LC49RG90 review

The CRG9 is certainly the most impressive gaming monitor I’ve ever used, and even if not precisely in its target market (my entire gaming PC, 24in Acer monitor included, cost about the same as this one screen alone), I found it made games a lot prettier and more involving. It requires a lot more desktop space than the average monitor, but once you’ve got over its initially alarming size its advantages quickly make themselves apparent. Smooth motion, imperceptible lag, lush colours, realistic and delicate lighting – all these things work to make games more enjoyable. Of course, you’d expect nothing less for £1,000-plus, and with that in mind we should caution owners of older or more underpowered PC hardware to beware: if your computer isn’t beefy enough, you won’t get as much out of this screen as you might expect. Your money may be better spent on a new graphics card, an SSD and a couple of sticks of RAM instead. Another thing you might want to do before pulling the trigger is wait for our review of the newer G9 Odyssey monitor, Samsung’s latest generation of ultra-widescreen gaming display. While outwardly very similar to the CRG9, it includes tweaks such as a 240Hz refresh rate, Nvidia G-Sync compatibility and rear LED lighting that set it up as an even more advanced option.

Superb HDR image quality and colour reproduction; Fast response time; Can replicate a dual monitor setup;

Expensive; Large and bulky; No Nvidia G-Sync support;

Samsung CRG90 (C49RG90) Review

Stunning quality, impressive HDR and loads of features. It's the best widescreen around – but you'll need to fork out for it.

Stunning screen quality; Excellent HDR performance; Solid physical design; Huge resolution; Fast, attractive OSD;

32:9 won’t suit everyone; Many graphics cards will struggle; No speakers included; Middling refresh rate; 4ms response time;

know your computer spec before buying

Found this to be an excellent monitor - though, laptop graphics card cannot handle full 5120p res. Therefore set to a lower res and not getting full benefit. That is the laptops issue and not the monitor. I went for this rather than keeping the two 24" monitors as having so many appications open, jumping between monitors was annoying. On this one, you can have three apps open side by side, and far better productivity. I am not a gamer, so cannot comment on much of the technical specs - but anything I have looked at, the picture quality, ease of control, and being without the bevel that exists when having two monitors - makes it excellent f...view more

Biggest and Best monitor I have ever owned

This is one huge monitor and looks fantastic. Big is definitely good. Plugged iit nto my work laptop and did the windows key + p to choose to span screen accross laptop and this monitor so I could open all the programs i needed on the big monitor to do my work. I thought i might need a docking station but thankfully i don't. Downside is I need to upgrade my destop PC now to take full advantage of the screen size if i want to play games.

Great high end monitor in 2020

Great monitor, does everything you expect for the price - easy to use and easy to setup. Its almost too wide and definitely couldn't imagine using anything wider.

A MONSTER

This thing is eye wateringly good. Went from a standard 4k TN panel 60hz to this beast and its the best decision i've made in a long time. It looks stupidly big but once you get it set up you will never want to go back. Works on all the games i've tried it with and a blast for working from home. The HDR is very bright and will have you squinting. Over all very happy with this purchase and would recommend to all looking for their next step up in gaming. Be mindful of your graphics card as you will want a 2080 super or 2080TI to really hit the 120FPS mark on the most recently games.
