Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G review

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G is a glimmer of hope that foldable phones can be excellent. It isn’t the best camera phone around, nor does it charge the fastest - but who cares? It folds and doesn’t do anything badly. Everything the Z Fold 2 does, it does at least well. It’s reassuring (glorious-looking) design delights every time you look at it, and the masterful hinge makes the two-in-one functionality we’ve been craving a reality. A handsome front-display only adds to the utility and enjoyment the phone delivers. At £1,799 for the 256GB storage version, it doesn’t matter how good it is; the Galaxy Z Fold 2 won’t appeal to most people. Nevertheless, the annals of technology history will remember the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 as the first foldable that was great - all-fold, no caveats.

Great screens; Solid hinge mechanism; Plenty of power;

Visible crease; Expensive; Good, but not great cameras;

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G Mystic Bronze SM-F916BZNAXNZ review

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the foldable smartphone you have always wanted.

Foldable screen is an innovative technology that has created a whole new form factor. In addition, the mobile comes with configuration and features from the top shelf.

Very, very expensive, and the camera is not quite as good as one should expect for the price. App continuity does not work with all apps.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G (256GB, Bronze) - Excellent review

While it's a shame that picture and sound quality haven't been upgraded, the iPhone 13 was great in these regards and the iPhone 14 is, too Excellent display Admirable headphone performance Solid build quality No upgrades to picture or sound Familiar design Notch is still present

Samsung Galaxy Fold2 5G - Black SM-F916BZKAXNZ review

Based on our limited time with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, it appears that Samsung has addressed all the complaints users had with the original Fold. It’s still a premium device with a specific target market, but the larger screens and better software make it a more attractive proposition for those who...

Much bigger front screen; High-end specs and camera

Not waterproof; Pricing puts it out of reach for many

Samsung Galaxy Fold2 5G - Black SM-F916BZKAXNZ review

I started out as a folding phone critic. In fact, I bought the Z Flip we reviewed this spring with the full intention of pointing out how dumb the idea was, except I was dead wrong.

Build quality Some of the nicest hardware I've ever touched; Folding screen Big, super-smooth, bright display; Bigger cover display It's large enough you can actually do stuff on it; Multitasking This has enough space and the right tools to do real work on a phone.

Price $2,000 is whole lot of money to spend on a phone; Average cameras Not living up to the price tag; Folding screen Unarguably less durable than a Gorilla Glass or Victus display; No IP rating Understandable given the design, but still a bummer.

Samsung Galaxy Fold2 5G - Black SM-F916BZKAXNZ review

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has arrived! With life now complete, I’ll be exiting – was great knowing you all. Fine, I won’t leave just yet because we have an unboxing to do, probably a review, tips and tricks, the works. But then, I’m just not sure how Android will need to try any longer since Tim and I...

Samsung Galaxy Fold2 5G - Black SM-F916BZKAXNZ review

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is miles ahead of any other foldable device on the market right now.

Both displays are now usable; Impressive battery life; More durable than you'd expect

Very thick and heavy; Super expensive; Multi-window mode doesn't seem to be polished enough

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G - Bronze SM-F916BZNAXNZ review

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the first foldable to feel fully baked. At $1,999 / £1,799, you’re certainly paying for the privilege of owning one, but thanks to its eye-catching design and smart utility, there’s a lot to love about it. Unfortunately, there’s nothing pioneering about its cameras.

Most polished foldable available; Very powerful; Exquisite design

Incredibly expensive; Cameras good; not great; Thick when closed
