I've been struggling to find something original to say about the Samsung Galaxy S5. The phone's already been panned by many reviewers, and I didn't particularly like it either. After using it for about two weeks, I still have no idea what the hell I'm doing most of the time.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is a product of hubris. It comes from a company that's in a position of power, and it knows that millions of people will be lining up to grab it as soon as it's available. To that end, it's a device that seeks to iterate on everything its predecessor did before it.

The Galaxy S5 is a blockbuster: big, loud, powerful, and dumb. It does all the necessary things too well to be considered a failure. It runs fast, takes good photos, lasts a long time, and isn't a pain to hold. The foundations it's built upon are exceptional.

The first half of the last two years has been all about the competition between HTC and Samsung's new flagships. This year, the battle became testier than ever thanks to HTC calling out Samsung for what it perceived to be a lack of innovation and the continued use of plastics in its Galaxy S5 .

With Sony, LG and HTC all ramping up their game of late, Samsung really had to create something stunning in order to pull away from the pack, and while there are core refinements to the basic Galaxy concept, the S5 doesn't represent the assured leap many will have been hoping for.

Samsung has had a great start to 2014. First the Galaxy Note 3 Neo and now their flagship – the Galaxy S5. Samsung's new poster boy has already received tremendous response in the short time that it launched. It already outsold Apple's iPhone 5s in the US on the launch weekend.

The Galaxy S5 does incorporate new features like water and dust resistance, a heart rate monitor and a fingerprint scanner, but the area where it loses is its design. ‘Why so costly?' First question most of the people ask when they come to know about the price of this new piece of tech from Samsung. But once I go on with the features they would be mesmerized listening to them with awe.
