Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Cosmic Grey 128GB 5G SM-G988BZADNZO review

There's little reason to buy a Galaxy S20. Samsung doesn't have any proprietary hardware or software that differentiates the device from the rest of the Android market. Right now, Samsung's size gives it the advantage of being one of the first to ship the Snapdragon 865, but if that's something you...

The 120Hz display is wonderful; It's buttery smooth and an improvement over 90Hz; It's just a shame it doesn't run at max resolution.

The sticker shock; The in-screen fingerprint reader is still the same tiny, first-gen sensor that was in the Galaxy S10; The cameras are a mess. Focus is slow and frustrating, and you'll miss shots waiting for it to catch up. The overhyped "100x zoom" is a smeary mess of pixels.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Cosmic Grey 128GB 5G SM-G988BZADNZO review

There's definitely a uncouth, almost brutal way in which the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra assaults the Android phone market in my mind, with it wielding hyper premium hardware, connectivity and camera specs like a barbarian warlord in the midst of battle.

Huge; buttery smooth 120Hz screen; Hyper-premium internal hardware spec; Versatile; feature-packed camera system; Supports all 5G standards (sub-6; mmWave; NSA); Impressive Geekbench 5 and 3DMark scores; Capacious 5,000 mAh battery stack

Obviously; the price; which is very high; Turn 120Hz on and battery life is affected; Would you be better with a Note 10+?

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Cosmic Grey 128GB 5G SM-G988BZADNZO review

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has to prove a lot to justify its ultra-high price tag of PHP69,990 (12GB + 128GB). For PHP14,000 more than the S20+, you’re essentially getting a bigger screen, bigger battery, faster charging, a new set of cameras, and the vague possibility of 5G (here in the...

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Cosmic Grey 128GB 5G SM-G988BZADNZO review

The Galaxy S20 Ultra is too big, too heavy, too expensive, and its camera struggles with focus issues.

Only super-zoom phone in the US market; Handles all three types of US 5G; Gorgeous 120Hz screen; Long battery life

Expensive; Massive; Camera focus problems; 100X zoom is a useless gimmick

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Review

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is a true groundbreaker that defines what we'll be doing with our phones, and with 5G, for the next few years. But after looking at all three Samsung Galaxy S20 models, I've decided the Ultra is just too much. It's too expensive, it's too heavy, and its vaunted "100x" camera takes up to four seconds to lock in focus. It's my third choice in the S20 lineup after the all-around champ that is Galaxy S20+ and the friendly, portable Galaxy S20. Design: It's A Huge Deal The Galaxy S20 Ultra is massive, at 6.57 by 2.99 by 0.35 inches and 7.76 ounces. It's actually slightly narrower than the Galaxy Note 10+ and the iPhone 11 Pro Max, and lighter than the iPhone. But its edges are less tapered than the Note 10+ or the Galaxy S10+, making it feel thicker in your hand, and it has a giant camera patch on the back. Available in black or gray and made of shiny yet surprisingly fingerprint-resistant glass, it's quite slippery, and trying to take pictures with it is a...

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Cosmic Grey 128GB 5G SM-G988BZADNZO review

Samsung has the S20 and S20 Plus for the mainstream, and it now has the S20 Ultra for those who want more and aren’t willing to sacrifice certain skills for a lower price. The Galaxy S20 Ultra is a no-compromise device: it might not be the ‘best’ in every area, but you couldn’t say Samsung skimped...

Zooming up to 10x is fantastic; Screen is a delight; Samsung’s software has never been better; Very fast charging

The price; Battery life; on the Exynos model; can struggle running the 120Hz display; It’s just so big

For anyone picking up the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra for the first time, what will register immediately is its weight.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Cosmic Grey 128GB 5G SM-G988BZADNZO review

$1,400 is a huge amount of money for a phone, but the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G gives you a lot in return – figuratively and literally. Siping the rarified air at the very top of Samsung’s 2020 phone line-up, the biggest of the S20 trio has the most excessive camera, the largest screen, and the...

Incredible 120Hz display; 10x lossless zoom is great; Performance can't be faulted; Huge battery

Some camera focus issues; 100x Space Zoom is more gimmick than useful; Very expensive

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Cosmic Grey 128GB 5G SM-G988BZADNZO review

That’s the most obvious feeling you get when using the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which will be available in March starting at $1,399.99. If there ever was an embodiment of the chip on a tech company’s shoulder, this behemoth of a phone is it.

Huge; 120Hz screen; Great battery life; Quality zoom photos at 10x; Very good selfie camera

Main camera softens faces too much; Main camera hunts for autofocus; 100X zoom and 108-megapixel photos are mostly gimmicks; Expensive for the value

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Cosmic Grey 128GB 5G SM-G988BZADNZO review

If you’re a Samsung fan, I don’t think I’ll have to convince you to buy this phone. It’s exceptional. However, if you’re on the fence about upgrading or maybe not familiar with Samsung phones, or you’re simply turned off from the idea of a $1,400 phone, let me tell you that this is a phone I could...
