Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G Mystic Mint SM-N980FZGGNZO review

The Galaxy Note 20 is Samsung's new entry-level stylus-included smartphone for 2020, but it's one that doesn't seem particularly exciting for the usual Note-loving crowd. It highlights some more affordable features compared to its more exciting Ultra sibling but it may well be just as good for those...

Strong camera spec; Improved S Pen

No curved edge; Weirdly low-spec screen

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G Mystic Mint SM-N980FZGGNZO review

At least before the onset of the comet-like price decline, my first impression is that there is only one reason to buy the Galaxy Note 20 - if you really want that S-Pen badly and you're a huge Samsung fan anyway.

Great high-end hardware; Sophisticated S-pen control; Trendy design

Hefty launch price; Space Zoom ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G Mystic Grey SM-N980FZAGNZO review

The S Pen-equipped Galaxy Note 20 strips away some key features from the larger model in exchange for a lower price, but gets a bit lost in Samsung's crowded 2020 phone lineup in the process.

Excellent S Pen stylus; Less expensive than the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and S20+

Middling value for the price; Digital zoom isn't great

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G Mystic Green SM-N980FZGGNZO review

If you're looking for a phone with an integrated stylus then there's little better than the note-taking potential of this phone. Sure, its 'glasstic' rear and lack of higher refrsh-rate screen are little red marks against its specification, but you can buy the step-up Ultra model if you see that as...

Integrated stylus delivers key point of difference; Great handwriting and notes input; Powerful and fluid operation; Neater design than Ultra version; Versatile and capable camera system

Lacks a higher refresh-rate screen (it's 60Hz here); 'Glasstic' rear - surely this could be glass on such a flagship?; Air Gestures still a gimmick; Should really be a bigger battery in a phone this size

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G Mystic Green SM-N980FZGGNZO review

When looking at the specs sheets and comparing the Note20 and Note20 Ultra side by side the former seems to require quite a few compromises to be made. For example, 5G is not available in the lower-end model and the 60 Hz display is not befitting its class.

color-accurate display; powerful S-pen; spacious and fast USF 3.1 storage; good cameras; decent speakers

5G not standard but optional; no microSD support; darker display than its predecessor; only 60 Hz panel; no aptX HD or Adaptive aptX

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G Mystic Green SM-N980FZGGNZO review

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is a good phone, but don’t buy it at its advertised retail price of $999.99. It’s a fine phone if you can find it for less, and hopefully you can because the only other phone with a stylus that matters is the very expensive Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

S Pen has come into its own; Solid performance and battery life; Reasonable size for more people

Not a good value at the original $1,000 asking price; No 120Hz refresh rate screen; Cameras are not inspiring

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G Mystic Green SM-N980FZGGNZO review

In the last year or so, Samsung has started splitting up its flagship experience with new "Ultra" devices. At first, it seemed like these new, higher-end phones simply had more and better stuff to elevate them further, but with the new Note20 series, I think it's clear Samsung is intentionally...

Software OneUI is pleasant to use now (even if Samsung's stock launcher is still derpy); Size and shape Samsung made a flat screen work at this size without being awkward or unwieldy; Performance This is a very fast phone; Battery life Ridiculously good.

Screen Low-res for the size and price, just 60Hz; No expandable storage The baby version loses out on the microSD slot; S Pen is on the wrong side Unless you're left-handed, it's annoying taking the S Pen out from the left side.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G Mystic Green SM-N980FZGGNZO review

The Note 20 takes Samsung's phablet formula and strips away some of the flagship sheen....

Good all-round camera performance Vibrant; flat display Solid performance Reasonable battery life Sleek overall design S Pen still ace

Overpriced Glasstic isn't fantastic 60Hz hurts Awkward speaker placement Gets hot No expandable storage

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G Mystic Green SM-N980FZGGNZO review

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is the direct successor of the Galaxy Note 10 released in 2019 . The device is avilable with either 4G or 5G network variants. The configuration of both the LTE and 5G variants are same, except that the 4G version is only available with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal...

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G Mystic Green SM-N980FZGGNZO review

So let's do a recap of what we like about the Galaxy Note 20. We really liked the low-key design, S Pen, Samsung Notes app, the battery longevity, and camera performance. It's too bad the display doesn't have a 120Hz refresh rate though, and some of you may have wished it wasn't made mostly out of...
