Rode M3

Rode have been in the electronics business in Australia since the late 1960s, but the company became better known around the world after 1998, when they started producing a cost-effective range of microphones.

Extended frequency response with smooth extremes; Battery and phantom powering; Gentle presence peak for subtle air; Switchable HPF and pads; Sturdy stand mount

No body-switch markings; Struggles to cut through on stage vocals; Unusually long

Rode M3

The concept of powering condenser microphones with batteries is not a new one. Early Neumann U87s had a battery compartment to accommodate two 22.5v flashgun batteries, and Sony's C48 had a compartment that accepted a 9v PP3.

"Great mic, great price"

I bought the mic a couple of months ago to record finger style guitar. Loved it right out of the chutes, but as these things go I decided to "upgrade", so I bought a Shure SM-81. Another great mic, but frankly after several days of A/B testing I prefer the Rode.

Standard and solid maybe a bit head but expected

Solid setup. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! Very little forgiveness in the treads. This is my second one. For the price its great and solid build. I wouldn't want to hold it myself too long due to its weight but I usually have it on a light stand and holder, static.

Works well with Zoom H1

Been using the Shock Mount to hold a Zoom H1 digital recorder on the hotshoe of my DSLR for improved audio.
It works great also on my SB800 flash stand as a table top recording device.
