Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus 8VR1S9-0AU0 review

Earlier versions had one problem for my door frame they were slightly too wide. This version solves this and indeed another problem that I had never thought of. So the people at Ring have listened to my moans and probably that of others and now both are solved.

Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus 8VR1S9-0AU0 review

Ring's 2020 flagship battery-powered doorbell is its most feature packed, complete with Pre-roll to capture events before they even happen. It'll quickly become a reliable part of your smart home that you use everyday. However, the basic Ring Video Doorbell is almost as good for half the price.

Pre-roll to capture events before they happen is a welcome addition; Removable battery; Good quality footage; Can customise outer casing; Customisable motion controls

Standard Video Doorbell (2nd gen) is half the price; App suffering from feature creep; You'll want a Chime or Chime Pro; Needs a Ring Protect subscription to maximise

Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus Review

The Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus comes with clever pre-roll technology, allowing you to get a better sense of what caused an event to happen. In addition, it comes with greater control over motion alerts, which successfully reduces the number of alerts you receive. However, with the same resolution and viewing angle as its predecessor, there isn't much reason to upgrade; but for everyone else, this is the best battery-powered doorbell on the market.

Powerful motion and notification control; Clear audio and video; Pre-roll gives you more sense of what's going on;

Timeline is fiddly to navigate;

Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus review

The Doorbell 3 Plus represents a big step forward in the battle against false motion detection, thanks to new close-range sensors. There's also Pre-Roll tech that, while not quite the same as continuous recording, provides a valuable few seconds of footage from before an event was triggered - perfect for reviewing any potential criminal activity. Those are welcome additions, but it's hard to recommend the upgrade from the Video Doorbell 2, which is identical in most other respects. If you're new to the market, however, the Doorbell 3 Pro is well worth considering.

Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus Review

The newest addition to the Ring family, the Video Doorbell 3 Plus ($229.99), is a wireless, battery operated smart doorbell that installs in minutes and delivers sharp 1080p video. It offers motion detection, support for Amazon Alexa voice commands and IFTTT applets, and unlike the Ring Video Doorbell 2, it features the company's Pre-Roll buffering technology that captures four seconds of video before a motion event. Access to recorded video requires a paid subscription, but it’s a smart choice for users who don’t feel comfortable working with wiring, as well as existing Ring product owners. That said, our Editors’ Choice, the $99 RemoBell S, is significantly cheaper and offers better all-around specs with free cloud access.Design and Features The Video Doorbell 3 Plus looks identical to the Video Doorbell 2 that we reviewed in 2018. At 5.1 by 2.4 by 1.1 inches (HWD), it’s bigger than the Ring Doorbell Pro (4.5 by 1.8 by 0.8 inches) and the Vivint Doorbell Camera Pro (4.6 by 1.5 b...

The Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus is a smart wireless doorbell that is easy to install and offers dual-band Wi-Fi, Alexa and IFTTT support, and Pre-Roll tech that captures a few seconds of video before an event.

Completely wireless; Sharp 1080p video; Pre-Roll video capture; Dual-band Wi-Fi; Supports Amazon Alexa voice commands and IFTTT applets

Doesn't support Apple HomeKit or Google Assistant; Requires subscription to view recorded video
