Overall great film scanner! The bundled SilverFast software is very easy to use. The color balance adjustments are very good and the infrared scan really does a great job to remove dust and scratches from old negatives and slides. I now almost never need to do added touch-ups with PhotoShop.

Great Product

IR technology is awesome has a super powerful photo editor to edit scans before saving. Not the fastest in the world but if time is not a factor then an great buy.

Plustek OptiFilm 8200i

The scanner is USB 2.0. I'm not sure if it would help to have USB 3.0. I think the majority of the time it takes to do a scan is the movement of the scan head and post processing of the image. The transfer speed may not take up a large portion of the overall scan time.

Hardware seems very capable; On 7200dpi scans you can see film grain sharply resolved; Great value as scanner comes bundled with Silverfast Ai

Installation procedure is confusing; Don't be surprised if you get a bunch of error messages; You can ignore/cancel most of them and keep going; You do not need to install the Presto! PageManager program; I have used both Silverfast and Vuescan with ths scanner without issues.

Great once you have mastered it...

As with a lot of other reviews, the software does take a bit of fiddling to get to an acceptable level but once I was past that point, I have been pretty pleased with the results. I am scanning slides over 30 years old and they are looking good once digitised. I would recommend this product.

Produces excellent resolution scans and provides tools to optimize them. Fast and useful.

First impressions after using this Plustek scanner for a couple of weeks are very positive, with a few caveats. I've used it to scan dozens of negatives and slides, and processed a few of those scans into large-format prints. Let's start with the negatives.

Can't scan dark slides

This scanner renders mounted color slides very sharp--a real plus, since I have to un-mount them on my other scanner to keep them in focus. Though this unit does a decent job scanning well-exposed "sunny" slides, shadow detail and underexposed slides don't scan well at all.

This is just the perfect scanner for 35mm negs and slides. It's quiet while operating. And the quality of scans are excellent as well. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Plustek OpticFilm 8200i Ai

The 8200 Ai ($499.99) is Plustek's top-of-the-line model for 35mm dedicated film and slide scanners . The next step up from the Plustek 8200i SE , it offers the same 7,200 pixel-per-inch (ppi) resolution and hardware-based dust and scratch removal, along with a less-robust, but faster,...

Optical resolution rated at 7,200 pixels per inch; Hardware-based dust and scratch removal; Automatic color calibration

Scans only one slide or frame of film at a time; Little automation in software

Great Scanner the Software is VERY Intricate

I was working on a book project that had me scanning 3600 negatives that are 24 years old. I bought an Epson V600 Flatbed Scanner first that worked well for about 5 days, then started putting red and blue lines in the scans so I returned it.

Scan clarity good but software limited

The device, itself, is a reasonably-priced and usable product offering a good resolution for old film negative and slide archiving. As images are manually located in the scanning window there is some variability in alignment from frame to frame.

Easy To Set Up; Easy To Use

Difficult To Clean; Not Automated; Requires Space
