Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f/4 AF: Lens Test

Olympus continues to push digital's optical envelope with the industry's widest non-fisheye lens for sub-full-frame DSLRs. A 14-28mm equivalent ($1,595, street), even by 35mm standards, this lens is extremely wide.

Beautiful, but requires some soul-searching

This is an amazing lens. My experience is in-tune with the reviews written here and elsewhere, it is absolutely beautiful. I purchased right before a trip where I would be in numerous cathedrals and wanted to be able to capture a very wide (or tall, in portrait) field of view, in low light.

Olympus M. Zuiko ED 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO

Searching for imagery with these lenses starts off slow composition-wise and sneaks up with a bang right up to your eyeballs. This is ONE incredible piece of glass. Finding compositions with this is astounding once you find your groove and mood.

Impressive Optics. Little noticeable barrel distortion. Optics appear to be just as good as my Canon 16-35mm L II. Having said that, I wish the lens design accommodated a filter so I could use a screw-on VND filter.

Outstanding sharpness from maximum aperture; Relatively compact and lightweight; Robust build; Dust and splash proof; Quick access for manual focus; Good value; Excellent control of CA

Manual focus control easily nudged when changing lenses; Quite prone to flare

Top Class Professional Glass From Olympus

Ordered This Lens from WEX at 3.00pm and it arrived the Next Day at 11.30am. Amazing service. The Lens is unbelievably sharp at all f stops including f2.8. THE only downside I can find is being unable to fit my Lee filters to this. But I am working on a solution at the moment.

Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Quick Focus; Rugged; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction
