The Z50 is a good debut for Nikon’s Z mount APS-C mirrorless system. Unfortunately, it’s entering a very competitive market and faces some strong competition, particularly Fujifilm’s X-T30.

The new Nikon Z50 mirrorless camera is the smallest interchangeable-lens DX-format camera Nikon offers, and as you can probably tell, I liked it a lot. It’s small and rugged with surprisingly high build quality for the price, and its thin, sleek design is very attractive.

Available at a great price and with lots to like - including build quality, handling, a very usable screen and viewfinder - the Z50 might be the new kid on the APS-C mirrorless block, but it’s easily one of the best out there.

The Z50 is one of the best APS-C cameras out there offering a multitude of the pro-level features introduced on the Z6 and 7, at a fraction of the price.

The Z50 is Nikon’s latest effort at winning over users in the mirrorless camera market, after the now-defunct N1 and the groundbreaking Z6 and Z7 from last year.

In as many ways as we can quantify, the Nikon Z50 is an incredible camera. Its drawbacks lie in the areas that are more difficult to measure, such as the overall value when considering the whole system investment, including available native lenses.
