nice binoculars

My wife and I just returned from a 12 day trip on the Amazon River. These binoculars were great to have along. Being waterproof was very important on this trip and we were not disappointed. We were able to find/see birds, mammals, and reptiles easily with these binoculars.

Quality Lenses; Strong Construction; Waterproof

Good Eye Relief

Just arrived. Bought for astronomy. Light for 10x50s. Has quality feel & sufficient eye relief for me to look through wearing spectacles. No tripod needed. Minor niggle is case fastening uses Velcro.

Can't beat these for the money

My only complaint is the caps are plastic and pretty mush useless unlike the rubber ones on other models.Other than that I love them.

First time Nikon buyer

I have used many brands of binoculars over the years. The PROSTAFF 5 10x50 is a good pair of utility binoculars having very acceptable clarity and light gathering capability for the price. I did find that the lens covers are pretty cheep and not well thought for binoculars of this class.

Nikon Prostaff 5 10x50

The new Prostaff 5 series, produced by Nikon, was launched in July 2013; it consists of four roof prism models with the following parameters: 8x42, 10x42, 10x50 and 12x50.

low physical weight for the 10x50 class; good quality prisms made of BaK-4; sensibly corrected coma; moderate brightness loss on the edge of the field of view; good whiteness rendering; sharp image across almost all field of view; small flares near exit pupils

not especially impressive transmission; huge chromatic aberration; noticeable distortion; significantly truncated right exit pupil; no coatings on some air-to-glass surfaces; the interior of tubes leaves a lot to be desired; no tripod exit
