Review of the New Flagship DX Camera – The Nikon D500

The Nikon D500 is a great camera and anyone who purchases it will really enjoy using it. Full frame is great, but if you are a photographer who likes to zoom in, then the DX may suit you more. If you shoot sports, birds, wildlife or macro, look at this camera, it could be just what you need.

Nikon D500 Review

The wait for a modern, pro-grade, APS-C Nikon camera is over. The D500 ($1,995.95, body only) is the replacement for the ancient D300S , and as you'd expect with a seven-year increment between releases, the D500 ups the ante considerably. The highlight of the 20.9-megapixel SLR is an autofocus system that covers the sensor horizontally from edge to edge, and is able to track moving action while firing off images at 10 frames per second. Add features like 4K video capture and a tilting touch-screen LCD, and you've got a camera that will make photographers invested in the Nikon system quite happy. The D500 is a top-end performer in almost every regard, replacing the Canon EOS 7D Mark II ($1,499.00 at Dell) as our Editors' Choice for enthusiast and professional APS-C SLRs. DesignWith the rise of affordable full-frame camera models, including Nikon's entry-level D610 and midrange D750 ($1,596.95 at Amazon) , some photographers, especially those who feel they've outgrown starter model...

The Nikon D500 puts the company's finest autofocus system in a tough, compact SLR body that will please demanding enthusiasts and pros alike.

Solid build; Advanced, edge-to-edge autofocus system; 10fps capture with tracking focus; Large buffer for extended shooting; Superb high ISO image quality; Clean HDMI output; Excellent control layout; Tilting touch-screen LCD; Dust- and weather-resistant design; XQD and SD card slots

Snapbridge wireless transfer needs some work; 4K video is cropped; Omits built-in flash

Nikon D500 impresses with big speed and features

With a fast burst speed, quick autofocus, impressive image quality and a solid design, the Nikon D500 is a solid contender, especially for sports, events and wildlife. The biggest downfall is that the video autofocus doesn't reach the same impressive level as when shooting with the optical...

Fast 10 fps burst; Quick; accurate autofocus; Solid image quality; Weather-sealed body with tilting LCD

Slow video autofocus; Heavy; No pop-up flash

The D500 is among the best DSLRs we've ever tested. Its strengths are its superlative autofocus combined with the ability to keep shooting at 10 frames per second. There are other APS-C cameras that offer similarly excellent image quality but none that offer the speed, ergonomics and dependability...

Nikon D500 Review

I never did completely lose faith. I think in the end it was probably just myself, Thom Hogan and one or two others – the true believers. Nikon would give us a legitimate successor to the D300S.

D500 Everything I expected

Since the early 1980s I was a Canon person. I used a Canon New F1 as my primary wildlife camera(film) with a 400 mm Canon prime lens. As digital photography started to explode at the turn of the century (early2000s) I tried to keep up by investing in superZoom all-in -one cameras also Canons.

Excellent camera.

A great Fathers day deal bundle, I snapped on my 200-500mm f/5.6 and went to looking birds of prey In the everglades. I mow use the D500 for more than just wildlife, I've been photographing the local triathlons In my state/Florida and other sporting events Involving my children.

What a camera!!!

Awesome camera. The ‘keeper' rate with 10 frames per second makes choosing which of the pin sharp and perfectly exposed shots to keep very difficult; what a dilemma!!!

At last the Camera that we have been waiting for

Took it out yesterday, straight out of the box and I was immediately impressed by the speed and ease with which it locked focus on my running, chasing lurchers and some birds buffeted by the winds. This, combined with excellent fps speed is great for my work.

Amazing Autofocus; Easy To Use; Good Fps; Great Image Quality
