When looking at the Nikon D500, you might expect it to be a much more expensive camera. It has great performance speeds, plenty of manual control dials, a high resolution tiltable LCD that has touch capabilities, and a high quality viewfinder.

Contains many features you'd expect to find on a more expensive DSLR; High ISO performance is outstanding versus others in this price range; Image quality is very good across a range of photographic conditions; Camera's performance is very fast in Viewfinder mode; Plenty of dials and buttons for...

APS-C sized image sensor can't quite match full frame sensors in image quality; D500 carries a high price tag versus other intermediate DSLRs; No built-in flash unit; Menu interface needs to be upgraded and be more graphical to take advantage of touch screen; Performance slows quite a bit in Live...

Nikon D500 DSLR Review

The Nikon D500 is the "little sister" of the company's flagship D5 professional DSLR system. The prosumer/enthusiast-focused Nikon D500 is the long-awaited successor to both the D300, which was shipped in 2007, and the upgraded D300S from 2009.

It's been almost seven years since Nikon's previous flagship DX-format camera was released, and it's fair to say an update was more than overdue. Those who have been waiting for a top-spec semi-pro DSLR will not be disappointed, as the D500 delivers on every front.

Nikon announced the D500 at this year's CES . This model is the long-awaited successor to the D300S, which was launched nearly seven years ago. Nikon has gone all-out this time, cramming in as many professional-level features as one could ask for in an advanced DSLR.

Excellent image quality; Good low-light performance; SnapBridge is useful; Ergonomic controls; 4K video support

Menu system lacks touch support; No high-framerate video mode; A bit heavy

Nikon D500 is a sport shooter's dream come true

Before knowing what I was doing, I had taken 10 photos with the new Nikon D500. The shutter speed was set for sports while the continuous shooting mode meant I didn't have to worry about missing a moment.

Built into the D500 is compatibility with Nikon's new radio controlled Advanced Wireless Lighting system. Using radio control technology, when combined with the optional WR-A10/R10 transceiver, the D500 can control and wirelessly fire the SB-5000 Speedlights from another room, around corners or...

Nikon D500 review

The D500 is a dream camera. It has a fast, effective autofocus system, 10fps shooting capability and first-rate metering and white balance systems. For the money, this might be the best digital SLR Nikon has ever made.

10fps continuous shooting; Huge raw buffer capacity; Robust; professional build quality

Live View autofocus improved but still hunts; Highest ISO expansion settings show banding; Expensive
