Nikon D5 review: Olympic effort from pro DSLR

It's no mistake that both Nikon D5 and Canon EOS 1D X Mark II have arrived in 2016. It's an Olympic year after all, with pro sports photographers seeking next-level kit to take next-level images in Rio.

New autofocus system is insanely good; super-fast 12fps burst with decent buffer innings; detail at high ISO settings is incredible; epic battery life

The "Hi" ISO settings are roughly pointless; some odd auto white balance decisions in mixed lighting; continuous shooting undercut by Canon 1DX II

The Nikon D5 is the latest in the company's evolving line of double-grip, full-frame action-oriented DSLR cameras. With a newly designed 20.8MP sensor, 12fps of continuous shooting with low viewfinder blackout and an intelligent and effective 153-point autofocus system, the D5 handily outguns its...

The 5D is aimed at pros and delivers a performance that won't disappoint them. With improvements to just about every aspect of the D4s, it's a flagship model that demands respect.

Review: Nikon D5 is a great sport for sports

It might sound like playground smack talk, but it's also the mantra that's kept rivals Canon and Nikon neck-and-neck for decades, churning out some properly brilliant cameras in the process.

Had the camera for a few months now. It's big and heavy, but definitely worth dropping by. The battery lasts forever. The camera always catch what you point it at. Awesome good camera! Sure it costs. But according to me who runs his own right it is a good investment.

Nikon D5

We haven't reviewed a Nikon pro camera since March 2010, when we had the D3s so we were quite excited when offered the new Nikon D5. Contained in a body that has changed little since the D4, the new camera provides a new Nikon-designed CMOS sensor with 20.8 megapixels (effective) and a new EXPEED 5...

Nikon D5

The D5 is an exceptional DSLR for any professional photographer. Whether you're coming from a D4s or elsewhere, the D5 is a worthwhile upgrade. It is especially ideal for capturing motion and low-light media.

Nice upgrade from the D4 / D4s for those who need the speed

The D3 / D3S was a game changer. The D4 / D4s gave me better AF and better resolution. The D5 has better AF, resolution and ISO, 1.5 stops better than my D4. Looking forward to the firmware upgrade I recommend going for the XQD version, for the speed

Nikon D5

The D5 is Nikon's latest flagship professional DSLR, sitting right at the top of its line-up and representing an upgrade from 2014's D4S. It's no surprise to see Nikon announcing a new camera in this year with big sporting tournaments, especially the Olympics, on the horizon.
