I do enjoy using this camera with the 18-55mm kit lens when I don't feel like carting all of my FF equipment around. However, there is one large annoyance: having to use a menu to change major settings, especially ISO! Also, the viewfinder could be a bit better.

Nikon is doing everything it can lately to regain its position in the camera world with the announcement of their new flagship mirrorless cameras the Z7 and the Z6. But those are specialty items, cameras that are targeted for professionals and enthusiasts.

Nikon D3500 review

Despite the growing popularity of mirrorless cameras, beginner DSLRs are still incredibly popular, and the D3500 is Nikon's latest entry-level offering in a competitive market.

Remarkable 1,550-shot battery life; Excellent image quality; Handy Guide mode; Compact proportions for a DSLR; Easy to use

No 4K video; No touchscreen control; Bluetooth; but no Wi-Fi

Nikon D3500

The Nikon D3500 is a new entry-level DSLR camera aimed at beginners which has a 24.2 megapixel DX format APS-C sensor with no low-pass anti-aliasing filter. The main changes to the D3500 compared to the previous D3400 model are extended battery life, now up to 1,550 frames per charge, a smaller and...

Nikon D3500 Bundle with Bag

Loving this new camera of mine. I am new to photography and having such camera has been fun to play with, however I believe I will always be learning how to use it! The Software for this camera is horrifically bad. Within 4 months of owning it (and only really using it for one vacation) It's not possible to get pictures off this camera. Direct USB connections to 3 different computers, Bluetooth to 2 different phones, Snapbridge to 2 different phones, none of it...

Fantastic Entry-Level DSLR

The clue is in the title. Entry-level. This is great value for an entry-level camera and can produce some stunning images. Sure, there are features that are missing, and some that you wouldn't expect on such a low-priced piece of kit. Overall, it's a great camera at an even better price.

Great DSLR

A great price for a great product, often referred to as an entry-level camera, but interms of features and functionality far from it. It does have in built tutorials that talk you through the process of the type of photo you are trying to take, so entry in that sense, but that's all.

Nikon D3500 Review: Best DSLR for Beginners

Like its D3400 predecessor, the new Nikon D3500 is a modestly priced but well-equipped camera that takes really good pictures and is an excellent learning tool for those new to DSLRs.

Affordable; Good image quality; Feature-rich; Excellent battery life; In-camera raw processing

Fixed LCD; No touch capabilities; Modest video AF performance

Nikon D3500

The Nikon D3500 is an entry-level DSLR for beginners. It's a modest upgrade over the popular D3400, with the same 24.2 megapixel resolution but a redesigned body and improved battery life.

Good quality kit lens; Very good image quality; Fast and silent autofocus; Unexpectedly snappy live view; Great for keen learners; Value for money

Fixed rear screen; Video is HD rather than 4K; Chunky compared to a mirrorless camera
