But, such cameras also have typical drawbacks, including slow performance, blurry photos from camera shake, heavy camera bodies, and image quality that isn't pin sharp. The ultra-zoom Nikon Coolpix P900 has some good features and some disappointing features, following along the same path as other...

Largest optical zoom lens on the market in a fixed lens camera at 83x; Good vibration reduction system allows for hand holding the camera for some scenes; even with zoom fully extended; Fast autofocus performance at wide angle lens setting; Good autofocus speed even at maximum telephoto setting,...

Small image sensor measuring 1/2.3-inch; Image quality and image sharpness just don't match up to other models in this price range; Low light image quality could be better; ISO range is limited to 6400; ISO performance is well below average versus other cameras in this price range; After shooting...

Nikon Coolpix P900 Review: Extreme Close-Up!

The Nikon Coolpix P900 is a delightful camera to use. It excels in the defining feature for this class of camera - optical zoom - not just by boasting the biggest spec, but also by offering the crisp optics and superior image stabilization that are required to make the feature useful.

Longest zoom range; Excellent image stabilization; Good overall photo quality; Fares well in low light; Clear electronic viewfinder

Details sometimes appear a bit soft; Quite bulky and heavy; Pricey; Lacks RAW image capture

Go for it unless you are a professional because it is fine for amateurs and gives great pictures. Remember to use a tripod when zooming beyond 125 mm unless you have extremely steady hands.

Maximum zoom (83) in its class; simply awesome

Lack of external microphone jack; no hot shoe; no RAW

Excellent camera

Good quality photos. Stability at full expansion very good. Not too heavy. Eyepiece viewing makes for easier shooting. Full of interesting features including manual capability.

I bought this camera with hopes to record track and field events from a distance. My photos are very blurry. Not happy!

Nikon Coolpix P900 review: The camera that's all zoom

The Nikon P900 was announced back in 2015 and remains to this day the holder of the world's biggest zoom on a consumer camera. Its 83x zoom range is equivalent to 24-2,000mm on a full-frame camera and can stretch from wide-angle vistas to pictures of the moon filling the frame.

Reasonable sharpness over a huge zoom range; Wi-Fi and GPS

The 2000mm zoom position is unwieldy; Too much reliance on menu navigation; Odd automatic ISO settings
