Good Camera, But Not Great

There are focus problems when using the self timer and in movie mode. If you start the movie recording, and then step in front of the camera, it mostly focuses on the back wall and your face is fuzzy. The camera never seems to recover. This is very bad (come on Nikon).

Everything is relative so I will be comparing Nikon's Coolpix P250 to its main competitor the Canon SX50 (they sell for the same price)

Nikon Coolpix P520 review: All-around very good megazoom

Editors' note: Several of the design, features, and shooting options are identical between the Nikon Coolpix P520 and the Coolpix P510 we reviewed earlier, so readers of the earlier review may experience some deja vu when reading the same sections below.

More point-and-shoot than dSLR in terms of features and performance than some competing high-end megazooms, the Nikon Coolpix P520 is a very good camera for those after a big zoom range, better control over results, and fine picture quality.

Give the Nikon Coolpix P520 plenty of light and it can turn out some excellent photos throughout its 42x zoom range; It has a lot of shooting options for those who like to fiddle with settings or straight snapshooters; a nice flip-out rotating LCD; and built-in GPS and support for Nikon's Wi-Fi adapter for use with Android and iOS devices.

Its autofocus system is slow when the lens is zoomed in, especially when compared with other models in its class; battery life is short; and the camera feels cheaply constructed.

Nikon Coolpix P520

A 42x optical zoom camera at a tempting price

Massive zoom lens; First class LCD screen; Very good value

Iffy GPS accuracy; Build quality only so-so

Nikon Coolpix P520

Measuring 125.2 x 84.1 x 101.6mm, the Nikon Coolpix P520 is slightly larger than the previous P510 model, but its design is only minimally different. Like most high-end superzooms, the Nikon P520 sports the typical bridge camera look, with a chunky hand-grip, large lens barrel, pop-up flash and an...

I wish this was my camera & not hubbies

Absolutely awesome zoom and the stabilizer means the zoom can be used while being held. My husband uses it to take pics of birds and family mostly.

Easy To Use; Fast/accurate auto-focus; Good Image Quality; Good Image Stabilization; Good in Low Light; Great Zoom; Large Clear LCD; Nice Body Color; Short Lag Time

Most versatile camera I own!

Owning a 35mm film Nikon FG and two Nikon SLRs including the D40x and D3100 and multiple VR and non VR Nikkor lenses I must say this camera is like a Greatest Hits recording. It has all the things that made Nikon what it is today and the only camera to take with you when you want to travel light.

The Nikon Coolpix P520 is a superb mega zoom camera that cases an 18milliion pixel, ½.3-inch CMOS sensor and offers a 42x optical zoom. It boasts of a 35mm equivalent focal length of 24-1000mm that allows you to shoot everything that you can think of even at the farthest of distance.

Good but no for filming

I love it. Great quality in every photo and amazing zoom! But if your looking to film something then its not so good, but only when you zoom. It makes a loud and annoying zzz noise. But lverall if you want to use this camera for photography then its great.

picture quality,features etc

when your filming it makes a very loud zzz noise

Nikon Coolpix P520 review

Superzoom cameras tend to be pricey bits of kit these days. Not so for the Nikon Coolpix P520 - this Coolpix sure doesn't hold back on the zoom, yet cuts back on the price compared to many of its competitors.

Affordable compared to rivals; small body but big and varied zoom range; image stabilisation; full vari-angle LCD; low ISO shots bright and colourful

Tricky to shoot at 1000mm because of feature restraints; autofocus at longer focal lengths is a little slow; no raw; image quality not pushing forward
