The Nikon Coolpix P1000 is all about its incredible zoom range. If you need a focal length of 3000mm, it's the only game in town. If you don't need that much zoom then there are far better cameras for equal or less money.

We fully expected the Nikon P1000 to be too unwieldy at 125x zoom to use handheld, but we were pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Outdoors on a sunny day, the P1000 doesn't require a tripod, but the hit rate for great shots isn't perfect at the telephoto end.

The Coolpix P1000 is a high-end, enthusiast-level bridge camera from Nikon. Its headline feature is its 125x optical zoom lens, which gives you a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 24-3000mm, making it unsurpassed in the market.

The Nikon COOLPIX P1000 is okay for sport and wildlife photography. It has an extremely long built-in zoom lens that's great for capturing incredibly far-off subjects. The image quality is also decent for its class, although image quality degrades significantly in low light.

The Coolpix P1000 is certainly an achievement, and the ability to capture reasonably good images at the 3000mm end marks it as unique. Camera optical and image quality is all they say it is. The 125 zoom works very well and the stabilzation is amazing so pictures at full zoom are possible handheld. There is also digital zoom taking the effective zoom to 500x !!

the bottom line, i didn't like the images it produced. they don't stand up to close scrutiny under any conditions. nikon needs to step up the game on the sensor and processing front before this type of system will be worth the 1k price
