like a lot of photographers, I'm looking to cut down on carrying everything including the kitchen sink. this lens takes up very little space but it packs a punch. Its the first thing into the holdall. Should have bought it years ago.

I am taking on field photos of college lacrosse games and trying to get up close and detailed photos for the players, the school and the parents. This teleconverter allowed me to get a bit closer with my 70-200mm f/2.8 Nikon lens and make better use of the whole field.

Poor in Low Light

I bought this (not from amazon) to use with my 70-200 2.8 VR2, after reading good reviews online. The thing is, there is a great impact on image quality, so much so that I just don't use it. Images are soft, even stopped down 2 stops, and lack contrast.

After reading the reviews, and recognizing there is little cost between the 1.4 and the 1.7x, I decided to get the 1.7 for my 70-200. My goal was primarily taking pictures of birds, and I knew I had to get closer to get better shots than I was getting.

I bought a TC-17E II as a used product from a respected online vendor. Attached to the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 G ED VR macro lens, I get super sharp images without loss of detail. When taking the shot of the first attached image, my hands are a bit shaky, but the VR of the 105mm lens was able to recover and gave me a blur free image.
