Is the AX8 worth the money That's a loaded question that requires a closer examination of the router's features and performance, all of which we will get to. First, however, let's go over some pertinent specs...

Geeky design (if you're into that) that can be mounted to a wall; Fast performance across the board; Supports Wi-Fi 6 features; Has link aggregation; Speedy file transfer performance via USB

Not fully compatible with some older Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) adapters; Limited QoS controls; Expensive; Not many devices fully support Wi-Fi 6 features (yet

Netgear Nighthawk AX8 8-Stream Wi-Fi 6 Router (RAX80)

The Netgear NightHawk AX8 RAX80 is worth considering if you're adamant about future-proofing your home network . It performs admirably, and its file-transfer performance is stellar. That said, it's more expensive than the Asus RT-AX88U, and it doesn't offer as many features.

Easy to install; Strong 5GHz throughput and file-transfer performance; Link aggregation

Expensive; Lacks anti-malware tools; AX clients are hard to find

Long range, easy setup

Very star wars ship looking. Quite neat. Has a built in cooling fan. Mobile app setup is super simple and quick. The 2.4g runs easily outside the walls of the house. 5g band still covers all interior space even with router not centrally located.

Flawless. Working great.

Been running a couple weeks and doing great. This is the first router I'm successfully using 5GHz. This is my first new router in three or four years. Previous routers I turned off 5GHz because would not work in my house.

Failed after few days. Purchased February 2019. Raised a customer support request but that ticket remains outstanding after almost 2 months; Netgear obviously do not read requests for support through the app or online.

Netgear Nighthawk AX8 review: A fast and versatile router

If you're considering buying an 802.11ax router at this point in time, that implies that you're willing to pay a premium to get the very fastest performance. If that's so, the Nighthawk AX8 is a tempting proposition but the Asus RT-AX88U delivers even better performance – plus a more generous...

Excellent performance over 802.11ac; 4x4 MU-MIMO; Good physical connections

Not quite as fast as the competition; Unambitious feature set; Only dual-band
