After a long wait, the Microsoft Xbox One S has finally arrived in our sunny island. When the Xbox One launched, our (and many gamers) first impressions weren’t great. It was bulky, needed an external power adapter, and looked worse for wear than its predecessor – the Xbox 360.

Microsoft began letting early adopters take their first version of the Xbox One home one cold November night three years ago. Now the company is back with the Xbox One S, a redesigned evolution of that first console.

I can’t really score the Xbox One S because of the short time I had with it, but from initial impressions it will definitely support your 4K (HDR) enabled screen a lot better than your standard Xbox One would. Especially if you are into your movie content, be it Netflix or via the Ultra-HD player.

In the almost three years since the Xbox One’s release, the console has seen many ups and downs. The original Kinect requirement alienated many, and when it was dropped as a mandate from the versions being sold, sales skyrocketed.

The Microsoft Xbox One S is a very welcome upgrade to Microsoft's game console and all-round entertainment system. 40% smaller, and with an internal power supply, it's a much nicer-looking box.

The Xbox One S is a major improvement over its predecessor in terms of style and footprint, and if you’ve bought – or about to buy – a 4K TV, it’s definitely worth purchasing rather than the standard Xbox One, or indeed a dedicated 4K Blu-ray player.
