My motivation in getting a Surface is pretty simple: I wanted a tablet for my "casual" usage around the house, but I still require full "normal PC" functionality, including the need to put the device...

I'm on my third device now, as the first two had screen defects (not just stuck pixels), but JL were excellent at sorting it out. Having had several laptops, from various top brands in the past, I have to say that this device is actually very good.
