Microsoft Surface Go 2 Pentium Gold 8GB RAM 128GB SSD STQ-00006 review

A nip and tuck of the original model with more screen real-estate. Although it's not super-powerful, it is super-portable and delivers as much as it ought to from a stylish little package. A great iPad Pro or Chromebook contender in the Windows space.

Smaller bezels than original model; Great (optional) Type Cover keyboard makes this a mini laptop alternative; Battery life solid for streaming

Accessories up the price a lot; Overall battery life not the very best going; Windows 10 S Mode has its limitations; Only one USB-C port

Microsoft Surface Go 2 Pentium Gold 8GB RAM 128GB SSD STQ-00006 review

The Microsoft Surface Go 2 is an excellent affordable Windows 10 tablet that features a premium design found in the company's more expensive devices. It offers a slight bump in performance over the original, but it is still rather underpowered – especially the base model.

Premium design; Affordable; Can run full Windows 10; Very good battery life

No Touch Cover or stylus included; Base model's specs are weak; Windows Store still too bare

Microsoft Surface Go 2 Pentium Gold 8GB RAM 128GB SSD STQ-00006 review

Even if it’s no powerhouse, the Surface Go 2 sets a new standard for cheap Windows 2-in-1s. By tweaking and improving the already-accomplished Surface Go, without unduly jacking up the price, it’s even more successful at replicating the qualities of recent Surface Pro devices - even outdoing the...

Great design and display Improved battery life Cheap for a Surface

Not very powerful

Microsoft Surface Go 2: A gorgeous machine and an improvement on the original but it still isn’t powerful enough

High quality webcam; Surprisingly usable keyboard; Excellent screen

Not fast enough

Microsoft Surface Go 2 Pentium Gold 8GB RAM 128GB SSD STQ-00006 review

Microsoft's cheapest 2-in-1 offers excellent value for money on paper, but you'll need to spend much more than £399 to get the most out of it

Microsoft Surface Go 2 Pentium Gold 8GB RAM 128GB SSD STQ-00006 review

Microsoft's Surface Go 2 is the most inexpensive, compact Surface Microsoft offers. This 10.5-inch tablet offers improved performance, though the...

Compact size; light weight; One of the best webcams in any laptop; Solid productivity performance; Bright; high-resolution display

Cramped keyboard makes prolonged typing awkward; Cheap for a Surface; but not necessarily compared to other tablets; Battery life is just average

Microsoft Surface Go 2 Pentium Gold 8GB RAM 128GB SSD STQ-00006 review

You talked, Microsoft listened, and so here comes the Surface Go 2 tablet to leave you no excuse for not putting a slim slice of Windows 10 in your bag. The headline number is, of course, the $399.99 starting price.

Highly portable and well-constructed; Kickstand remains a big advantage over rival tablets; Bigger display and Core m3 CPU are both welcome; LTE option remains a rare treat

Expensive for the better-processor; Battery life falls well short of promises; Gets expensive when you add accessories and options

Microsoft Surface Go 2 Pentium Gold 8GB RAM 128GB SSD STQ-00006 review

“The Surface Go 2 still doesn't live up to its endless potential.”

Beautiful; bright screen; Light yet sturdy; Runs a full version of Windows 10; Intel Core m3 offers solid performance

Too expensive; Tablet usage is still rough; Battery life is lacking

Microsoft Surface Go 2 Pentium Gold 8GB RAM 128GB SSD STQ-00006 review

The small tablet has updates in it that go a long way toward addressing the problems with the original Surface Go , but not entirely. The screen is bigger, and there’s an option for a faster processor, both of which make this a better computer.

Bigger screen; Core M3 processor option; Runs any Windows app

Very low performance ceiling; Disappointing battery life; Keyboard flex

Microsoft Surface Go 2 Pentium Gold 8GB RAM 128GB SSD STQ-00006 review

The original Go was a mostly well-received addition to the Surface line when it arrived in late 2018. It was a nice, pint-sized alternatively, positioned fairly well to serve as a secondary device for some.
