Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order review

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is like many Hollywood blockbusters: Good fun, little substance. Considering it crams many of the most well-known movie characters around into one over-the-top experience, its identity as an epic crossover event makes sense.

Humongous cast of playable heroes; Flashy animations; Fun co-op; Low barrier to entry; No microtransactions

Repetitive button mashing; Stale environments; Hindering leveling system; Frivolous RPG mechanics

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

The gaming industry has changed drastically over the last ten years, with games as a service becoming more predominate. Keeping up with the likes of Fortnite and FIFA is almost a full-time job, with seasons, timed events and continual updates designed not only draw in new players but keep ‘em...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order review

You've got to hand it to Marvel: very few entertainment properties in the last few decades have had quite the same impact as the MCU. A cinematic universe with one foot submerged just deep enough in t

Great playable roster; Solid voice work; Lots to get through

Can feel a little repetitive; Awkward camera; Multiplayer is a little too messy

Live an Avengers Adventure!

Really good game. 4 character co-op mode is fun. Reminds me of the old TMNT or Gauntlet games. A huge gallery of characters to choose from once you defeat them or reach certain levels. The violence is anything you would see in any superhero fighting game. No blood.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

"I don't see any other doors," says Iron Fist, as we come up against one of the ninja clan The Hand's nefarious traps. "We'll have to solve this puzzle if we want to get through the door." The statues are a few centimetres away from glowing floor tiles.

A wide range of Marvel characters; Miles Morales! Spider-Gwen; Plenty of locations and references fans will recognise

Fighting is competent but not that exciting; RPG features are cut back and lacklustre; Poor continuation of the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance franchise

Review: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

Marvel diehards will certainly enjoy the fanservice on offer here, but even if you have no idea who the bloody hell Scarlet Witch is, there's a solid Hack ‘n Slash to play through, if you're willing to overlook its flaws.

Good; mindless fun; especially in co-op; Marvel fans will get a lot out of the 36 characters on offer; Voice acting is entertaining throughout

Hack ‘n Slash gameplay might get repetitive for some; Long loading times; Some serious camera issues in single-screen co-op; Not enough Deadpool dialogue

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order Review

Marvel is big business these days, and with the world still reeling from the hype of Avengers: Endgame it would be almost foolish for Ultimate Alliance 3 not to tie in somehow with Thanos and his Black Order.

Fantastic roster and voice talent; Superior gameplay to the previous titles; Amazingly slick style that plays like moving comic; Even better with friends with tons of co-op options; Fantastic roster and voice talent; Superior gameplay to the previous titles; Amazingly slick style that plays like...

Ability system feels a little stripped back from the originals; Little endgame content (until the DLC
