LG G6 smartphone review: A decent enough phone in isolation, but it can't challenge a flagship

If you're looking for a flagship smartphone, your requirements are very simple and very clear. You just want the best smartphone there is. There will be some leeway in this requirement of course; you might prefer Android to iOS, for example, but the fact that you want the best device is...

LG G6 Review

The LG G6 is an impressive Android phone that buyers cannot ignore. 2017 is not a Samsung only affair as LG clearly stepped up the game.

Impressive display with no exposed edges; Beautiful design that is easy to hold and resilient; Great cameras and options on front and rear; Wireless charging & quick charging; Water resistant

Only 32GB of Storage Included; Mediocre Audio Quality

Almost perfect: LG's new flagship Android smartphone is very comfortable to use and has few foibles

LG's G series has been getting better and better over the years. The modular G5 was an interesting phone that turned out to be great value once the price dropped (plummeted). Now here's the G6 which brings a spec sheet and features that aim to take on the best on the market.

Fast, Good battery, Good low light camera, Comfortable to hold; Great ergonomics, IP68 Waterproof

Selfie cam is poor; Audio quality is mediocre

It's not the oddity that LG's past flagships have been, and it's arguably all the better for fitting in, but it also might struggle to stand out. For all the G5's flaws its modular design gave it something few phones could rival, with the G6 you're left with a competent – even compelling – handset,...

+ Great screen; + Polished design; + Dual-lens camera

- Dated processor; - Lacks innovation; - Low light photos could be better

After LG went wild with the G5, this year's flagship G6 can't help but seem a little subdued by comparison. That's alright, though: It's full of notable improvements, from the water-resistant body to the beautiful, extra-long screen. Plus, the dual-camera setup feels a lot more polished.

Gorgeous 18:9 display; Solid performance despite older chip; Dual camera offers lots of flexibility; It's water-resistant

LG's interface still isn't for everyone; Disappointing battery life; Plain industrial design; Unimpressive audio

With Samsung's Infinity Display and Sony's Ultra Slow-Mo, it will not be an easy run-in for anyone OEM in 2017. Away from cheap thrills and gimmicks in the form of modular approach, LG admitted to the those in attendance at MWC that the view pushed the company in the wrong direction.

The G6 is LG's attempt after the modular G5 was considered a flop. If you recall, the G5 involved pulling apart sections of the phone to add other components like a camera attachment, hifi, battery etc. While the company were doing things differently, it appears the market wasn't ready for it.

The subtle curve of the corners, the ample performance, the way it just feels right in your hand. The G6 is a reminder that LG can make great smartphones when it isn't trying to make them modular.

LG G6 Review: The LG flagship you've always wanted

A competitive threat Even taking into account the UI and the device's mild display issues, though -- the benefits of the fast, capable and beautiful flagship far outweigh the downsides. From a product perspective, it appears LG has achieved what it set to do.

Beautiful design; Good audio quality; Excellent wide-angle camera

Display sometimes unresponsive; Battery life middling; LG skin somewhat obscures stock Android
