Triple cameras and an in-screen fingerprint scanner make the new Huawei P30 a serious step-up from last year's model

The Huawei P30 is a flagship device from Huawei Inc . The device, along with the P30 Pro , runs on the company's latest in-house Hisilicon Kirin 980 7nm CPU, which offers high-end performance similar to what is attainable on the likes of Snapdragon 855 devices or Samsung owned Exynos 9820 Octa .

The Huawei P30 Pro has gotten all the buzz with its new superzoom camera, but Huawei has one more phone that features the same kind of performance power in a more compact body and at a much more affordable price, and that phone – undeservedly – flies under the radar.

Screen quality is good; but not great; Photos have bleak colors; EMUI has its quirks; no quick pull-down for notifications; etc; Disappointing loudspeaker quality; New nanoSD cards required here are hard to come by; No 4K60 video option; No warranty if you get it in the US; will not work on Verizon...

The smaller sibling of the P30 Pro, the P30 carries all of the great features - and all of the drawbacks. While it's not top-of-the-line, those looking for a long lasting battery and an impressive camera should definitely consider this phone.

Long lasting battery; impressive camera; low price; and a night mode that still puts Google to shame.

Bad bloatware; as with all Huawei devices; makes this phone more difficult to use than it should be.

More than just an understudy, the P30 is a great phone in its own right.

The Huawei P30 offers you a best-in-class camera setup and a terrific design while commanding a smaller price than the Samsung Galaxy S10, or even the S10E. It's a fantastic deal, but a hassle to buy thanks to geopolitics.

Huawei's P30 is a gorgeous phone with an astonishing camera setup; Its battery life is exceptional and the phone sells for a reasonable price.

Power output by the Kirin 980 processor is good but not great, and the P30 lacks the premium feel of the P30 Pro; Huawei's EMUI take on Android remains a cut below pure Android, iOS and even Samsung's One UI.

While the P30 Pro is Huawei's premium flagship, it also launched the P30 Lite and Huawei P30 . While I bought my own P30 Pro a few weeks ago, for the past couple of weeks I have been testing out the less expensive P30.

It fits great in the hand, costs less than a Pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy S10, delivers a flagship experience and glistens like a unicorn should you opt for the breathing crystal version. If you can deal with the lack of wireless charging, curved display and the fact it packs only three cameras, there’s every reason to consider the P30 as your next smartphone.

The Huawei P30 doesn't match the P30 Pro when it comes to camera performance, but if fares surprisingly well everywhere else. The phone has a premium design that gives key rivals, like the Galaxy S10 a run for its money. Under the hood it has great hardware that will meet 99% of buyers needs. The only downside is that it's Emotion UI software is still flooded with bloatware.
