The Honor View 20 is the best alternative to the OnePlus 6T you’ll find. Is it actually better? Well, the camera is. So is battery life. And it’s certainly more eye-catching. Oh, and it has a headphone jack too. For many, this is the Android to buy on a £500 budget. It’s also more daring, and more polarising than the OnePlus, which is a true crowd-pleaser. However, that Honor has managed to make one of the most compelling phones at this price rather than its usual £100-250 wheelhouse is a real achievement. Nice work, Honor.

The View 20 is stunning to look at - from just about any angle, thanks to the one-two punch of the pinhole camera on the front and the genuinely unique holographic V effect on the glass rear. The specs are plenty powerful to match, while perhaps for the first time, Honor deserves to be in the same conversation as the big names when it comes to camera quality. Touting a high megapixel count is meaningless, but it's hard to argue with the results, especially from the AI Ultra Clarity mode.

Huawei Honor View 20 review: The first standout phone of 2019

I can't think of a more fitting first phone review for 2019 than Huawei's Honor View 20. Announced in the waning days of December 2018 for China first, the Honor View 20 is a visually mesmerizing Android Pie phone whose midtier price belies all the features Huawei's stuffed inside and out: a 48-megapixel camera on the back alongside a 3D stereo lens. A 6.4-inch display with razor-thin bezels. A 25-megapixel camera on the front, with a hole-punch opening instead of a notch. A visually showstopping finish. A 4,000-mAh battery and 125GB or 256GB of on-board storage. And a headphone jack!
