As a cost-saving gesture, I purchased this printer for a subsidiary office. Also purchased a fine-looking (and poor-performing) HP laptop for similar reasons. We have a Ricoh Aficio in another office that is pushing 8 years old, with heavy service.

For Documents an excellent printer. Very Fast.
We purchased this printer for our small printing business and so far we are truly happy with the quality and ability of this little powerhouse. We print on 110lb cardstock as well as 20lb copy paper and it does a fabulous job on any and all!
Updated: July 2019 I no longer recommend HP. We have several of these printers. HP forced firmware updates which now prevent use of 3rd party ink forcing you to use very expensive HP ink at 4x the price.
The ease of setup and the performance I have so far is excellent. In the first few days of use P rented out over 2500 pages, and the speed and print output was excellent.
I read about this new HP technology and I have been pleasantly surprised with the performance. Much quieter than previous HP machines and the printing is lightning fast. No wet ink on page to worry about and the machine is good-looking to boot!!!
I purchased this a year ago and have been highly disappointed from the beginning. Now our agency has turned off SMBv1 on our servers and Xerox will not help me. I looked at alternative HP printers and realized that everything in this price range will have the same problem.
In many ways, the HP PageWide Pro 577dw Multifunction Printer ($899) behaves more like a laser multifunction printer (MFP) than the inkjet that it is. Among its attributes are speed, great graphics quality, and low running costs. A higher price tag keeps it from wresting the Editors' Choice from the comparably equipped Epson WorkForce Pro WF-6590 ( at Amazon) , also a laser-class inkjet. The 577dw($899.89 at Amazon) still warrants strong consideration as a color MFP for up to heavy-duty use in a small or midsize business, especially if output quality is paramount. The PageWide Brand and Technology Although the 577dw is among the first group of HP printers to sport the company's new PageWide branding, it's in the second generation of MFPs to use the HP technology for which the brand is named. PageWide printers have a stationary printhead that spans the width of a page. This permits much higher print speeds, and higher-quality text and graphics, than standard inkjets. The HP Office...
The HP PageWide Pro 577dw Multifunction Printer is an inkjet that's faster than many lasers, and offers solid text and excellent graphics quality as well as low running costs.
Fast; Good text and excellent graphics quality; PCL and PostScript drivers; Wi-Fi, HP Wireless Direct, and NFC; 50-sheet ADF supports single-pass, two-sided scanning; Low running costs for an inkjet
Relatively pricey for what it offers
