Google Home review UK: The Amazon Echo rival

If you haven't already splashed out on an Echo, Google Home is an essential purchase. Aside from a handful of teething problems, it's a remarkable little home helper, and one I can't recommend highly enough.

Cheaper than Echo; Wide IoT support; Easy to use

Some features unavailable in UK

Google Home Review

Although Amazon has been through a slew of Amazon Echo devices since launch, Google has been far more relaxed about its own range of products. Launching back in 2017 in the UK, the Google Home hasn't seen a refresh yet; don't let that put you off, as it's still a current product and, far more...

Great design; Decent sound; Reasonable price point; Conversational assistant; Easy setup

Limited smart home compatibility; Speaker isn't very loud; Needs to be plugged in at all times

Great microphone performance; Customisable design; Expansive skill set; Effortless setup; Unobtrusive

Google Home review: now with multi-user support

Google Home is pretty much neck and neck with it's biggest rival, the Amazon Echo. That doesn't mean it's not an excellent product, though - especially for those who have already bought into Google's ecosystem.

Cheaper than the Echo; Chromecast support; Easy to use

Voice recognition and speech capabilities are slightly lacking

Google Home review: the smart speaker that answers almost any question

Google Home is an excellent entry into the burgeoning smart speaker race that's revving up between the big US technology companies. Amazon's Echo and Alexa have a head start, but Google's Assistant is highly capable in many ways, but strangely half-baked in others.

great understanding; can answer lots and lots of questions; good sound; small

variable volume makes control difficult; can't always hear you; not much good for a non-Google user; privacy concerns

Google Home review

Genius in some ways, and a dunce in others, Home, like the Echo, is on the cusp of true brilliance. We're just not quite there yet.

Looks classy; yet unobtrusive; You can control your home and music like Tony Stark; Search and translate functionality is brilliant

Could sound better; Play Music doesn't support adding to your library/playlists; You can't add appointments; reminders; or send messages

Google Home Review

It's always nice to be pleasantly surprised by a product. I had the opportunity to play around with the iFrogz Impulse Duo dual driver wireless Bluetooth headphones (not an easy title to get your tongue around).

Google Home – Review

Overall, with the new multi-account feature becoming available, the sensitivity of the microphones, the cleverness of the Google brain and the accuracy of the voice recognition, this is a device which can only get better and better.

Not worth the money

This is probably the most useless piece of technology I have ever owned!! I paid a heck of a lot of money for a glorified alarm/reminder. The app you need for this is hard to set up, no instructions with it, so you're navigating all sorts of places to set it up.

Perfect Mesh network solution.

Purchased to provide cover over my whole house to around 20-22 devices. TV's, games consoles etc. Setup was as simple as it states in the instructions. Around 10-15minutes and was then a case of adding all the various devices and setting names.
