The GoPro Max is GoPro's second 360-degree camera, following 2016's . But to think of it as a straight sequel to the GoPro Fusion is to get off on the wrong start. "This isn't Fusion 2," says GoPro Vice President of Product Management Pablo Lema.

This is so cool. Makes amazing videos and pictures. So much you can do it that makes it so good and different. Can't wait to try it out more

Nothing combines action cam and 360 video as well as the Max. There's a clear direction for improvement but it gets so much right and makes working with 360-degree video an absolute dream

Last year, Insta360 revolutionized the idea of what a 360 camera could be capable of with the Insta360 One X. The One X was marketed not as a 360-degree camera, but instead a camera that could shoot 360 degrees of possible angles that could be accessed after the fact.

So here’s the thing. The Max is an incredible camera if you’ve never used a GoPro Hero 7 or Hero 8. It’s also far more streamlined than the GoPro Fusion ever was. Fusion was a great tool, but the barrier to usage for day to day scenarios was high from a workflow standpoint.
