GoPro Hero 10 Black review

It doesn't reinvent the action camera, but the Hero 10 Black is a much more user-friendly and refined version of its predecessor, and the most versatile action cam you can buy. The new slow-mo frame rates and wired data transfer modes are useful, while the snappier interface and small image quality improvements make it an enjoyable waterproof companion for adventures and b-roll footage. Its rivals now offer larger sensors and better value, though.

Snappier menus and interface; Powerful GP2 processor; New 4K/120p mode is fun; Class-leading stabilization; New lens cover repels water; Faster wired transfer mode;

Same small sensor; Still not a low-light king; Budget rivals offer better value

GoPro Hero 10 Black CHDHX-101-RW review

The GoPro Hero10 Black looks a lot like the Hero9, but rolls video with more pixels and double the frame rate, making it the company's best action camera yet.

5.3K capture at up to 60fps, 120fps 4K for slow motion, Class-leading video stabilization, Front-facing color screen, Waterproof without an add-on case, Media Mod support, Wi-Fi and USB transfer for phones and tablets

Battery drains quickly, Costs more when bought without a subscription, Heat limits long-form recording

GoPro Hero 10 Black CHDHX-101-RW review

Last year GoPro did a complete overhaul of its Hero action camera lineup with the GoPro Hero9 . It added a front-facing screen, 5K filming, and more battery life. This year’s GoPro Hero10 is an iterative update that builds on the foundation laid by the 9.

5.3K 60fps and 4K 120fps, Quicker photo and video capture, Backward compatibility with Hero9 accessories

Pricey, Mediocre battery life, Low-light footage has both grain and smoothing

GoPro Hero 10 Black CHDHX-101-RW review

The GoPro Hero10 Black looks the same as last year’s model, but boasts a faster processor, better image stabilization, and higher resolutions. The GoPro Hero10 Black may look the same as last year’s model, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts.

Excellent image stabilization, Front and rear displays, High video resolution

Need to open side to use USB port, Heavy

GoPro Hero 10 Black CHDHX-101-RW review

Ultimately, it’s clear the Hero 10 is the best GoPro they’ve ever made. But then again, you’d sorta hope it was. Both physically and practically, the GP2 chipset changes are more under the hood than purely visible as huge new marketing features.

GoPro Hero 10 Black CHDHX-101-RW review

The GoPro HERO10 Black convinced me that a dedicated camera device can be desirable and even necessary, even for a smartphone-using non-extreme-sports sort of person such as myself.

Easy to use hardware and software, Robust services available, but not absolutely necessary, Removable battery, Top quality photo and video capture and features, Front and back-facing displays

You'll want a powerful phone to edit 5K+ video, Charging batteries via camera is slow, Charging batteries requires open bay door
