Fujifilm XF1 Review

The Fujifilm XF1 ($499.95 direct)($324.95 at Amazon) is slim compact camera with a sexy retro design. Its chrome body is available with a tan, black, or red leatherette covering, and has a retractable lens with a manual zoom design. The 12-megapixel shooter's 2/3-inch CMOS image sensor is larger than those on competing cameras, and its photos show it. Even though its image quality is very good, it's not quite a match for our Editors' Choice high-end compact, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100($239.95 at Amazon), which features a huge 1-inch sensor. But if you're a fan of the XF1's looks, you'll be happy to know that it's a solid performer in its own right. Design and Features The pocket-friendly 7.9-ounce XF1 measures about 2.4 by 4.2 by 1.2 inches when its lens is collapsed. It's pretty similar in size to the enthusiast-focused Ricoh GR. The 2.4-by-4.6-by-1.4-inch, 8.6-ounce GR packs a bigger image sensor, but its wide-angle 28mm lens doesn't offer any zoom. The XF1's lens is a 4x z...

The Fujifilm XF1 is a neat retro-look compact camera with sharp optics, but its light-gathering capability diminishes as you zoom.

Retro styling; Sharp lens; Wide aperture at 25mm; Manual zoom lens; Collapsible lens design; Low image noise; Raw support

Expensive; Small aperture when zoomed in; Limited zoom range; No viewfinder or hot shoe; Loud focus

Good high end P&S

Fuji XF1 is a high end P&S with lot of manual settings. The camera has a unique way to turn it on manually. This requires some practices to turn it on quickly and smoothly. It does save more power with this design.

Fujifilm XF1

The Fuji XF1 is the James Bond of enthusiast pocket cameras -- sleek, retro-styled (but somehow still eminently modern) and even a little dangerous looking. Like the classic Walther PPK, it's not a bad little shooter either, providing a bright f/1.8 max aperture at wide angle, overall speedy...

Sleek; retro styling makes it one of the best looking pocket cameras we've ever seen; Quality build and feel; with a slick lens-twist to turn on; silky manual zoom lens; that begs to be shot; Fujinon 4x (25-100mm equivalent) manual zoom lens boasts fast f/1.8 aperture at wide angle; with good

Maximum aperture drops quickly as you zoom, Lens cover is somewhat flimsy and doesn't lock closed; can easily open when pressed up against something, Manual zoom lens on our test unit became stiff after a period of use, and didn't seem to want to fully retract into the body, Steep learning curve on

Awesome

Awesome camera with great design. I brought this camera to banff and had lots of amazing photo done with it. Good size for travelling and great photo quality. (of course can't compare to DSLR) Really satisfy with it!! Recommended to purchase an extra battery.

Looks amazing and the body of the unit is very well made, although have doubts as to the long term durability of the lens mechanism. When the lens is extended a lot of play/sideways movement. Also a lot of play in the lens when moving from locked to standby/zoom positions.

Very good jpeg shooter capturing lots of detail. A great camera that is very capable in it's own right and as a great training camera for those who want to learn about post processing in jpeg and raw. I added a tripod, extra class 10 SD cards and extra batteries. Carumba!

many dslr options like raw capture

Cool Camera!

The retro styling makes this a very cool camera. I have only used it on two occasions, and what i see is that it takes better pictures on the day time, and at night, there are a lot of out of focus images. At night taking more then one shot of any subject is a good idea.
