Fitbit Sense : A healthier alternative?

Plenty of new health related features and good battery life go together to make a solid alternative to fitness tracking rivals

Looks great; Comfortable to wear; Innovative health features;

Not all new features ready at launch; SpO2 watch face is fiddly to use;

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

The Fitbit Sense has definitely impressed us so far, with the new EDA sensor, improved battery life and built-in GPS making a good case for upgrading. With a greater emphasis placed on using Fitbit Premium with the new wearable, there's still a lot more ground to cover before our final verdict but...

New focus on health tracking; Great battery life; Fast GPS tracking; Informative running data

Offline playback limited to Pandora/Deezer; Overzealous step counter; Fitbit Premium required for best use; Back panel scratches easily

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

The Fitbit Sense is an ambitious smartwatch that seems like a perfect fit for these stressful times, with as much emphasis on mental wellbeing as tracking physical workouts. There's room for improvement on the software side, but if you're interested in practicing mindfulness and making small steps...

Detailed mood and stress logging; On-board GPS for workouts; Extremely comfortable to wear

Many tools require Fitbit Premium; Step counts not 100% inaccurate

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

If you're specifically in the market for a watch to help monitor your health - and you're happy to pay the monthly subscription for the extra insights - then the Sense is a really great device with so much data.

Solid and premium design; Lovely vibrant display; Easy to use; Fitbit app is brilliant; Good accessory collection; Great sleep tracking; Spotify support; Great health features

Heart-rate sensor slow to respond; Smartphone notifications pointless; No Google Assistant yet; Limited third-party app support; Fitbit Pay support from banks is minimal; Lots of features locked behind Fitbit Premium

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

Bugginess slightly holds back a well-rounded health-focused smartwatch that really tries to innovate

Comfortable to wear; Nice OLED display; EDA; ECG; SpO2 and a skin temperature sensor make the Sense unrivalled for health features; Apple Watch-embarrassing battery life

Seriously buggy and slow; Data overload can be both vague and confusing; Forces you into selecting a certain watchface for SpO2 measurements; You need Fitbit Premium to maximise it

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

For all-round physical and mental health tracking, the Sense is the Fitbit with it all.

Stress tracking; Great design and display; Fitbit app

Insecure wrist strap; Some metrics for paying Premium subscribers only

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

The early Fitbits were remarkable for how little you needed to interact with them, but the Sense flips that script. By piling on sensors and features to seemingly compete with Apple, the Sense has added as much complexity as capability.

Nice design and band swapping mechanism; Loaded with next-gen sensors and tracking capabilities; Very good battery life

EDA quick scan takes too long; Fitbit OS is less intuitive and more frustrating than ever; Heavy reliance on Premium makes the price higher than it is

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

Fitbit's premium, pricey Sense smartwatch puts a focus on your well-being with the ability to measure and monitor your stress, heart rhythm, skin temperature variation, and blood oxygen saturation.

Attractive design with large; always-on color display; Excellent battery life; Measures blood oxygen level; Features an ECG app; Robust stress management and sleep tracking features; Supports Amazon Alexa; Fitbit Pay; Spotify

Expensive; Touch screen responsiveness could be better; Band release latch can be accidentally triggered; Small third-party app selection

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

When Fitbit announced the $329.95 Sense last month, it was being hyped as the company’s most-thorough health tracking device yet. With new features in the form of stress management (with electrodermal activity monitoring), skin temperature, oxygen saturation while you sleep, and an upcoming Food and...

Sleek design; Bright; colorful screen; Intuitive interface; A ton of granular metrics; including SpO2; heart rate variability; breath rate; skin temp; and EDA; Nice integration with mindfulness training

Lots of bugs and performance hiccups; Solid-state button is fiddly; Some things just don’t feel as fully integrated as they could be; Battery life is cut in half if you turn the display to always-on mode

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

It's been three years since I first tested the Fibit Ionic and while it was a solid fitness watch, it didn't do well with consistently functioning as a GPS sports watch. For the past couple of weeks I've been testing Fitbit's latest watch with GPS, the Fitbit Sense .

Superb fit; finish; and design; Bright and clear AMOLED display; Lightweight and comfortable for 24/7 wear; Extensive health tracking capability; Smart alarm; Various health scores for understanding progress

No support for offline Spotify music; Basic data for exercise tracking; Swipes on the display don't always register; Solid state button is not as reliable as a physical button
