Canon EOS R Body With EF Adapter EOSRBB-AD review

It’s clear that the Canon EOS R is a very capable camera. In the right hands, it captures plenty of detail with good exposure and attractive colours. And while it’s AF system isn’t the best (nor the worst) at tracking fast-moving subjects, it focuses with confidence in low light conditions.

Canon EOS R review

Perhaps it’s something to do with the fact that we’ve been waiting what feels like a heck of a long time for Canon to come up with the goods and produce a full-frame mirrorless, but we can’t help but be just a little underwhelmed by the Canon EOS R. While it produces excellent images, some aspects of the handling leave a little to be desired, and there’s nothing here that will really blow you away. Making the decision to go for a single, SD card slot is going to disappoint quite a few, while cropped 4K video is likely to put off videographers. Overall, the EOS R feels a little bit like proof that Canon is listening and working to produce mirrorless models. It seems likely that a more advanced model is in the works for professionals, while perhaps something cheaper and more basic will also be released along the line too - for now the EOS R occupies a sort of no-mans-land. It’ll be interesting to see how many Canon users jump ship to this, and whether it can claw any back from those who may have already bailed and gone to Sony - watch this space.

Great image quality; Fully articulating screen; Custom controls;

Single SD card slot; High price; No in-body IS ;

The EOS R is official and it's a big leap for Canon

Canon's starting off with a camera that's cannibalizing its full-frame DSLR best-seller, the 5D Mark IV. It'll slot into the same niche as the enthusiast-oriented 6D Mark II, taking on Sony's A7 III and setting its sights on Nikon's still-an-unknown-quantity Z6, but with more pro-video-friendly design and features than have previously been available from Canon in the price range.

But the company's long-anticipated full-frame model seems a small, expensive step for mirrorless.

Canon EOS R Review

A successful entry in the rapidly growing team of full-frame mirrorless cameras, if not the most complete in this class

Great image quality; Excellent EVF; Full-frame images in an APS-C like shell;

No in-body stabilisation; Not the smallest full-frame CSC;

Canon EOS R review

With a 30MP sensor, fantastic color reproduction and on-sensor autofocus, the EOS R can produce some beautiful photographs with pinpoint-accurate focus. But it's Canon's first mirrorless full-frame camera, and in many ways, it shows. The ergonomics feel unfinished, and for the same or less money, you can find better video, more dynamic range and faster burst speeds elsewhere. But we have to admit that Canon's new RF lenses are simply spectacular, and at this time, the EOS R is the only way to get to use them.

General and social photography, casual video shooters and those looking for either a backup body for their full-frame Canon glass or are looking at building up a collection of new RF lenses.;

Those looking to shoot sports or fast-moving subjects, those needing the absolute best image quality for either landscape or video work.;

Canon EOS R review: A new era for full-frame mirrorless

This full-frame mirrorless camera is a major turning point for Canon, embodying both risk and reward in one very capable and commendable product.

Full-frame sensor and new lens line-up delivers superb quality potential; Loads of customisation options; Intuitive touch controls and M-Fn Bar has potential; Finally a Canon mirrorless with impressive autofocus options; Can focus in very low-light conditions;

Lenses really aren't small; Just one SD card slot; It's rather pricey; Learning curve for DSLR users: various settings hidden/require scrolling; Autofocus could be more precise in some situations;

Canon EOS R Mirrorless review

The Canon EOS R is great for landscape photography. This well-built camera may be a bit heavy, but it's still pretty easy to use. It also has excellent image quality, so photos look sharp, detailed, and free of visual noise. It isn't the most portable option for long hikes, however.

Well-built, sturdy design., Amazing image quality., Excellent dynamic range.

Not very portable.
