Canon EOS M50 Mirrorless Camera with 15-45mm Lens M50KISB review

Although the limitations imposed on the 4K video mode are frustrating, the M50 is the best Canon mirrorless camera to date. Crucially, the autofocus system, which was so bad in the early days of EOS M, is now very good (provided you limit yourself to shooting stills or Full HD video) and the quality...

Excellent image quality; Superb implementation of touch-control; High-quality viewfinder built-in

4K video mode crops the frame; Plastic feel; Limited lens range

Canon EOS M50

It's about time that Canon added 4K to a consumer camera-it's currently only available in the pro-grade EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS-1D X Mark II SLRs and in its cinema cameras. But what's in the EOS M50 was not the right way to do it.

Compact; 24MP APS-C image sensor; 10fps burst; 7.4fps with tracking; Wide focus coverage area; Vari-angle touch LCD; Mic input; EVF; Wi-Fi

4K video is cropped with slower autofocus; Native lens options still limited; Limited shots when shooting Raw bursts

Canon EOS M50 Review: A Surefire Mirrorless Camera

Consumers are demanding mirrorless cameras because generally they're as good and as versatile as DSLRs, but are smaller and lighter. While that's one of the draws of the 24.1-MP Canon EOS M50, it's not the only one.

Very good photo quality; even in low light; Excellent electronic viewfinder; Easy-to-use swiveling touch screen; Lots of shooting modes; Includes hot-shoe for external flashes

Expensive; Relatively smaller lens selection; Video footage had some jitter; Less battery life than competition

I'm not a camera pro. I needed to start shooting content for my business and did some research - took a shot on this one. Great decision. The amazing auto focus is a key feature for filming yourself because it follows you after you set it up to keep you in focus as you're moving around.

Canon EOS M50 review so far

The Canon EOS M50 is a mid-range mirrorless camera with a 24 Megapixel APSC sensor, Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus, built-in OLED viewfinder, Wifi and Bluetooth, and becomes Canon's first mirrorless with 4k video, a fully-articulated touch-screen, eye detection and silent shooting options.

The Canon EOS M50 is an entry-level mirrorless camera that features an electronic viewfinder, fully articulating touchscreen, single control dial and a 24MP APS-C sensor – the same used by its M-series siblings.

Canon EOS M50 review

The EOS M50 borrows some features and ideas from existing models, but it also has a few innovations of its own – so could the EOS M50 be Canon's most well-rounded mirrorless camera yet?

4K video; Improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF; Polished touchscreen; Excellent EVF; Easy to use

Poor battery life

The Canon M50 has to be one of Canon's best mirrorless camera options yet; but at the moment of writing this review, it still feels like Canon is intentionally holding themselves back for reasons that I genuinely don't understand.

Canon's mirrorless lineup has been around for a couple of years now, but the company has taken its own sweet time in bringing the series up to speed with the latest features. Meanwhile, others like Sony and Fujifilm have embraced the mirrorless segment with open arms, delivering some truly...

Light and compact body; Fully articulating display; Above-average image quality in daylight; Dual Pixel autofocus works well

Weak battery life; Slow autofocus at 4K; Average high-ISO performance
