CAT S60 Review: Hardcore to a fault

The world's first thermal imaging smartphone is the CAT S60, a device first introduced back in February of 2016. This smartphone is part of a collection of Android-based devices made by the folks at CAT, aka Caterpillar.

Extreme ruggedness; FLIR thermal camera; Headphone jack; SOS hardware button / Multi-function button; Unique industrial design

Super thick; wide body; Tiny display for size of phone; Extreme lack of software updates; Cameras are baseline; GSM/HSPA only (AT&T; T-Mobile; no Verizon

It is still waterproof and works fine. Am not sure if it is my car ...

Have had this phone for about a year. A small screen that covers the part that I talk into came off. But that really hasn't impacted its use. It is still waterproof and works fine.

After a day's use + Quick + Infrared camera, sick cool :) + hearty + Programmable button - Great! So did not think it was such a block :) my old phone is a Sony Z3 compact, and it is smaller in every way despite the same screen size.

Cat S60

Sometimes, one standout feature in a smartphone can help it pull ahead of the crowd and become an almost instant classic. Caterpillar's Cat S60 smartphone almost manages to accomplish that feat thanks to a unique feature, a heat sensor, that transformed it into the world's first thermal imaging...

One very tough rugged phone; Good performance levels; Built-in FLIR camera

Pretty hefty; Also pretty expensive; Small size of display could be problematic for some

Cat S60 review: Tough build and thermal imaging make for a phone like no other

Cat phones of the past have never been about having the best specifications, more about having the toughest phone build on the planet.

Incredibly durable build; Can survive being in water up to 5m; Long battery life; Thermal imagery

Screen is small; Bulky build; Performance is hit-and-miss

The Cat S60 is not for everyone. Without the very clever thermal imaging camera all you're left with is an unspectacular, albeit rugged, phone.

Medium-powered; lowly HD resolution screen; gimmicky Underwater mode; high price; niche appeal

Cat S60 Review: Batman called and wants his phone back

From the moment you unbox the Cat S60 it's apparent this phone is unlike anything you've seen before. It's disgustingly thick, oddly shaped, has a funky door on the back of it, and the word "Flir" embossed next to one of two cameras.

Think CAT and a massive yellow excavator is probably the first image that comes to your mind. Short for Caterpillar, the company has been making heavy construction equipment for decades now.

Being a smartphone manufacturer is no cakewalk these days as getting the audience to notice your product in a highly saturated market is no easy feat. We've seen companies bank on waterproofing and shatter-proof displays to set their products apart.
