Asus ROG Chakram Review

What if you could attach an analog joystick to a gaming mouse? Asus, maker of the new joystick-equipped ROG Chakram wireless gaming mouse ($159.99), hopes the concept will inspire you to think up and dream about an infinite array of new ways to play PC games. At the risk of bursting someone's bubble, the joystick reality isn't that joyous (or even appealing). The Chakram successfully slams 360-degree movement controls onto a mouse, only to reveal that it isn't a particularly useful design. Even if its signature feature falls flat, though, the Chakram is a comfortable, well-made wireless mouse for those who don't mind its premium price.Stick It Out: The Chakram's Thumb Joystick Before we get into the design merits and pitfalls of the analog stick, let's take a moment to recognize that the Chakram has all the hallmarks of a good all-around wireless gaming mouse. Measuring 1.9 by 5.2 by 3 inches and weighing in at 4.5 ounces, the Chakram has a tall stature that makes it a better fit ...

The Asus ROG Chakram is an outstanding wireless gaming mouse, but its ostensible "superpower"—a thumb joystick—proves underwhelming in practice.

Built-in analog stick works in mouse and gamepad modes; Good shape for larger hands; Long battery life; Qi wireless charging; 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connectivity; Supports new ROG Armoury Crate software

Analog stick feels like a gimmick; Expensive

Great Mouse w/ one small drawback

The Chakram feels great in the hand for just general use. Build quality is better than most. The swappable switches are also a nice touch. The only negative is that at least for me the joystick is positioned too far forward which renders it a pain to use and mostly useless. I have large hands and can't reach it so unless people have really long thumbs the joystick is a gimmick.

Extremely satisfied, but a little disappointed

First and foremost it's beautiful and functions beautifully. It took me a little while to get use to the size difference between it and my old keyboard which was much larger. However dicspite my surprise of the size of the keyboard. I enjoyed this about it. I was looking for a smaller keyboard anyways so it worked out perfectly. Extremely customizable which was pretty cool and then battery has exceptional running hours. However when I first opened it I felt a little misled because when I purchased the keyboard is red that it had a touch panel that came with it so I was expecting a touch pad one you would use for pictionary or drawing in general. Instead its a touch panel on the side of the keyboard that controls the valume on my monitor. Dicspite this misunderstanding which I blame myself for not reading more thoroughly into it, I still would recommend this keyboard to anybody that wants a nice high quality wireless keyboard.

Amazing mouse.

Absolutely love this mouse. It fits extremely comfortable in my hand, buttons feel perfect. It's light and the battery lasts a really long time in my opinion. I do wish ASUS had something like Logitech does, where the whole mousepad charges the mouse, but I'm sure something will happen.

a really cool mouse idea with bad execution

the idea of the mouse really cool, but if I remember correctly one of the button was really hard to press. that was a huge down site for me so I refunded the mouse. (it's been awhile)
