Apple Watch 6 review

While the Apple Watch remains one of the standout wearables you can buy, we're still waiting for another leap forwards in functionality and, perhaps, design too. The blood oxygen monitor is another weapon in the arsenal of health Apple is building, but isn't the headline feature most potential upgraders will be clamoring for. As ever, the incremental improvements to the battery life and display are welcome, but it feels like there's untapped potential still with Apple's wearable line.

Great color additions; Sleep tracking finally appears; Always-on display;

Lacks a headline upgrade; Battery life needs to be longer; Siri can automatically fire easily

Apple Watch Series 6 40mm GPS Blue Aluminium Case with Deep Navy Sport Band MG143X/A review

Checking your blood oxygen is a very reasonable addition to the company’s suite of health features.

Blood-oxygen-measuring tool is useful. Faster charging time. Slightly larger display. Still the best smartwatch or fitness tracker for the iPhone.

Battery life remains mediocre. The SE's existence irritates me. Many of the best features are still theoretical. You need an iPhone to use it.

Apple Watch Series 6 40mm GPS Blue Aluminium Case with Deep Navy Sport Band MG143X/A review

The Apple Watch Series 6 may seem like an incremental upgrade, but the introduction of blood oxygen monitoring is a game-changer. And the brighter always-on display is welcome. Yes, there’s not much different from the Apple Watch 5 to the Apple Watch 6, but the SpO2 monitor is a tool you might find...

Blood oxygen (SpO2) app, New colorful casings, Brighter always-on display, Faster charging

Same 18-hour battery life

Apple Watch Series 6 review: Sensors for sensors' sake?

Despite the new sensors feeling like a tick-box exercise, there's still no better smartwatch on the market. It's just that this time around it offers many features you'll want, along with many that you aren't aware you'd want, plus lots that you'll simply never use.

New dimmed display option; Display is brighter than before; Fluid performance; Lovely design options for both size options;

No game-changing improvements over Series 5; Sleep tracking raises battery charging questions; Altimeter doesn't feel well executed; Why do we have a blood oxygen monitor?;

Apple Watch Series 6 review

Overall, the Apple Watch Series 6 is a good fitness watch and an excellent smartwatch with lofty ambitions to be a total wellness numen. The myriad of new sensors is useful to a degree, especially for those who worry about respiratory and heart issues, but by no means is it vital for most wearers. The new features very much pitch it as the wearable of 2020 and beyond, and WatchOS will continue to improve and offer more services. For a £100 less there’s the Watch SE which isn’t afforded the new blood oxygen monitoring, nor does it have an always-on display – but it’s 64-bit dual-core S5 processor will assure it’s just as speedy, so this might be the better option, espeically if you're new to Apple Watch. But if you love the new colour options which aren’t available elsewhere, have health concerns or just want all the latest tech paired with brilliant design, choose 6.

Brighter display; Zero lag; Comfortable (even when sleeping); Faster charging;

Could do with more use cases for bloody oxygen function; Battery life could be better; In reality, not a huge jump from Apple Watch Series 5;

Apple Watch Series 6 review: The best, most feature-rich smartwatch you can buy

In my opening paragraphs to the Apple Watch SE review, I asked how Apple could improve on the already excellent Apple Watch formula, and the answer was to lower the price, which is where the Apple Watch SE succeeds. The question now becomes, where does that leave the $389-plus Apple Watch Series 6? How does it tempt you away from buying the SE, or to upgrade from a previous-generation model? Interestingly, it does so in a typically watch-like fashion, while making sure the nerdier among us also get our fill of new tech. Apple has not changed the look of the Apple Watch Series 6 from the Series 5, but it has done what many watchmakers do when they hit upon a popular design: They change the colors and introduce a special edition. You can buy the aluminum Apple Watch Series 6 with a blue case, a new gold case, or in a special (PRODUCT) RED finish, which joins the existing silver and space gray models. Along with the new case, colors come two new strap designs, the Solo Loop and Braided So...

Comprehensive health and activity tracking; Reliable software; Always-on screen adds visual appeal; New blue, red, and gold colors look great; Apple S2 chip is a powerhouse;

ECG and SpO2 measurements have limited real-world use;

Apple Watch Series 6 (40MM, Silver) - Grade (Excellent) review

Operates seamlessly with iPhone and has some great features. Seems to accurately measure heart-rate. Swum in the surf with no issues. Comfortable and a good weight. Magnetic charger is easy to use and charges quickly.No issues or problems. It is disappointing that the battery life is so short.
