Xbox One Review - 'Alien: Isolation'

Buy Alien: Isolation If you are a fan of games involving the "Alien" franchise, you know how many games have tried to feature the iconic movie monster. You also know that nearly all modern attempts have been disappointing.

Alien Isolation Review

Alien's translation from celluloid to joypad has been a trial, to say the least. The series that began with director Ridley Scott's eponymous 1979 masterpiece is an icon of cinema, while sadly the games conceived in its image have fallen short of the mark.

Channels Scott's 1979 original movie; Visually authentic; Spews tension

Has the potential to frustrate; Getting used to manual saves can be a pain; The abundant tension can become exhausting

Alien: Isolation Review

It's not often that I criticize a game for being too long, but " Alien: Isolation " feels like it outstays its welcome. There's too much backtracking, too much filler, and the game would have been tighter if it were half the length, and none of the tension would have been lost.

Alien: Isolation

Unlike most of my friends, I've never been a big fan of the horror genre, both movies and video games. There are certainly exceptions (well, mostly the

+ Homage to the Alien series - both audio and visual; + The Alien's ability to hunt you; + Genuinely unnerving; + Tons of ways to attempt to outsmart the Alien

- Inconsistent voice acting; - Awkward pacing at times; - Annoying item creation

Alien: Isolation - Corporate Lockdown

From the start, I didn't really have Alien: Isolation pegged as a prime target for downloadable content; after all, the story it tells is very self-contained; the focus remains solely on Amanda Ripley as she struggles to survive aboard Sevastopol Station.

Surprisingly good!!

This game was a big surprize. The last alien game was a bit clunky at times and had glitches. I liked this one a lot. It's forced stealth. You can't win against the alien so you better avoid it. My only negative is that it has little replay value.

A good s@@t the bed scare game.

I can't finish this game, the atmosphere is so involving and the gameplay so good I keep getting spooked and scared. It's full of scares, story and atmosphere. The alien AI is very smart and will find you so you have to keep moving.

Alien: Isolation review

There have been many games based on the Alien series over the years, but Alien: Isolation is the first that truly does justice to the original movie. Eschewing balls-out action for dread, terror and a feeling of utter powerlessness in the face of a perfect killing machine, this game will scare the pants off of you again and again and make you feel intense relief simply at having made it through a tricky section. It’ll also frustrate you and push your patience to the limits, which means that it won’t appeal to everyone. If you’re used to being handheld through first-person shooters, you’ll find Alien: Isolation to be a markedly different experience. In some ways, we welcome that: it’s not often you play a game that demands this much concentration to play. It’s healthy to be challenged, and it's rewarding when you finally triumph. But because it’s such an intense experience, you may feel that it’s not always enjoyable. Me? I mostly loved it. Mostly. Version reviewed: PlayStation 4

Scary as hell; Beautifully realised environments; Excellent atmosphere and music;

Mean save point distribution; Unforgiving alien A.I;
