For both the beginner or advanced photographer

I was looking for and found a small one-lens (zoom), high quality build, and excellent picture quality, camera that was both fully automatic and with which it was easy to gain full control over any one picture. The menus are easy to navigate.

Easy to use as auto or full control of picture

Right thumb has a small place of rest and can; without practice; inadvertently press a button

I got mine used for a bargain price and I would never buy it new or any other fuji. The image quality and dynamic range are astonishing the details you get from shadow and highlight in lightroom is comparable to my nikon d610.

I like the controls for primary functions but the interface is a bit fiddly for more obscure settings, likely solved by familiarity. It's fun with adapters to use old lenses on this body.

Beautiful tonal renditions (film-like); compact; fast handling; quality construction; very adaptable for using legacy optics; stealthy quiet; high ISO duty maintains nice quality

Can struggle a bit in very low light focusing

Fujifilm X-E1 review

Six months ago Fuji finally joined the compact system camera goldrush with its X-Pro1. As the model name indicated this was a high-end interchangeable lens compact that came across more as a budget (at £1,000+) digital version of a £5,000 Leica, complete with rangefinder-like controls and tank-like...

Smaller; lighter and slightly cheaper version of flagship X-Pro1; gorgeously retro styling; some lovely DSLR-like effects and results achievable with the 18-55mm kit zoom provided; good option for the semi pro photographer wanting a less intrusive backup to a DSLR

More plastic-y elements to certain aspects of the build this time around; even though it commands a premium price tag; plus auto focus could be quicker still; particularly when adjusting framing during video recording

Fujifilm X-E1 review

The 16.3 effective megapixel, 1920x1080 pixels Full HD video shooting Fujifilm X-E1 competes directly with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 in the retro styled compact camera system stakes.

Retro styling; Less daunting than the X-Pro1; Lovely image results

A pricey step up; Screen isn't angle adjustable; AF could be quicker

Fujifilm X-E1 Review

The Fujifilm X-E1 is the second mirrorless camera from Fujifilm after the Fujifilm X-Pro1 was launched earlier this year. The X-E1 is a more compact model, with an electronic viewfinder instead of the optical/electronic hybrid in the X-Pro1, and sees the introduction of a new 18-55mm lens with...

Brighter than normal kit lens (f2.8 - f/4; Impressive noise performance up to ISO6400; Impressive colour reproduction; Great build quality and handling; Film simulation modes; High resolution EVF; Good panoramics

Indoor white balance could be better; Expensive lenses / price of kit; Kit lens could be wider; Exposure compensation dial easy to knock
