This is a very sharp lens with it being 1.4 this enables a very shallow depth of field. I find it to be of the best close to the 1.2 "L" series. I have used it on my 5D Mark II and my 7D fast focus and a quiet responce never better.

It's an excellent product. The images come out very clear, great for portraits and places where there is a lot of light (duh). All your body imperfections will appear in the pictures taken with this lens.
It broke within a week. Returned it for a new one since it took fantastic pictures. J&R can't get their hands on one so I am getting it from another store.
Consistent Output; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus
Broke easily
Love the low light ability, smooth bokeh, and sharp pictures. Great success with portraits, indoor shots, and landscapes. This is a great all around lens.
Consistent Output; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh; Rugged; Strong Construction
This little beauty shines! I have owned the $100 50mm F/1.8, and it is a usable and good starter prime. I have also shot with the 50mm F/1.2 L, which will run you $1600. I purchased this lens as a fine cost/value compromise.
Immaculate image quality without "L" investment
you will want to pick up a lens hood.
an essential lens, but less useful on APS-C
lightweight; good image quality; shallow depth of field
none really
I am very impressed with this lens; pictures are pin sharp as you would expect from a prime lens. Compared to the f1.8 lens the construction is much better you never feel as if it will fall apart (but I still don't recommend that you drop it!).
Consistent Output; Easily Interchangeable; Lightweight; Quick Focus; Rugged
After years of disappointing point & click and smart photography I bought a DSLR. A prime lens was always going to be one of my first accessories as I knew that I wanted to take better family portrait shots and that the stock lens was not going to give me the background blur I was looking for due to...
Excellent photos, did exactly what I expected it would do. Not disappointed in this product, just John Lewis with their cash back offer... which you don't get by the way!
