Great lens!

This is a solid, high-quality lens that definitely deserves the "L" series designation from Canon. The auto focus system is very fast and very quiet. The added bonus of image stabilization makes this lens much more versatile as a general 100mm prime aside from its macro abilities.

Light weight; internal focus movement

Tripod ring D too expensive and unavailable

After years of holding off, I finally bought this lens and I am not disappointed. The amount of detail you can see at 1:1 (life size) focus is incredible. Even at longer distances the amount if detail this lens can resolve is impressive.

Great detail

I use this for wildlife and the color details are amazing. It's sharp and great in lowlight situations. Overall, I'm happy with using it for close subjects, but you want a longer (such as 100-400) lens to go with this one. I haven't tried macro yet, but I have no doubt that it performs elitely.

Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Rugged; Strong Construction

One of the best lenses I've ever had. Very sharp, quick and not too heavy. I have tried Tamron 90mm VC USD too (300 euros cheaper) but taken Canon. Works much better on 7D and 5D. In addition, works fine with 1.4x Kenko Pro extender (blue dot) and has tripod mount (optional)

Very sharp; Great stabiliser and quick AF; Build quality; Great bokeh

Lens hood not prefect - wobbles

Canon's most fun-per-dollar lens

I have enjoyed macro shooting for some time (having used the ef-s 60, 100 (non-L) and 180L in the past. While each of those lenses has specific advantages and disadvantages, I found the 100mm focal length to be perfect in terms of working distance and portability for the following reasons: With 60mm...

Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Quick Focus; Sharp Focus

Heavy; Weak Casing

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM: worth the extra over the non L version

If you're on a strict budget, then the non L is a steal, but the L version is the better lens

IS works really well; great IQ

pricey; paying for features you might not ever use

Excellent macro lens with IS

Although I already own the Canon EF180mm f/3.5L macro lens, I decided to go ahead and purchase this additional macro lens, primarily because of its lightweight construction, fast aperture and image stabilistion. I am so pleased with this lens.

Consistent Output; Lightweight; Quick Focus; Sharp Focus
